Fifty years after the original Heuer Monza was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 1976 Formula 1 World Championship, TAG Heuer returns to the historic racing chronograph with a thoroughly modern interpretation. The new TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph Carbon combines references to the original model’s black-and-red racing aesthetic with forged carbon construction and a high-performance flyback chronograph movement, continuing a motorsport story that began with Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni half a century ago.
The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph Carbon (Ref. CR5092.FC8372) features a 42mm forged carbon case measuring 15.22mm thick, with the lightweight composite material extending to the fixed bezel and crown.

Its cushion-shaped profile draws from the modern Monza design reintroduced in 2000 while retaining the dark, competition-inspired character associated with earlier versions of the watch. The chronograph pushers are made from stainless-steel with a black DLC coating, creating a nearly uninterrupted black appearance across the case.

Around the back, a black DLC-coated titanium caseback incorporates a sapphire crystal window providing a view of the TH20-12 automatic flyback chronograph movement. The caliber’s contemporary architecture is emphasized by an openworked blackened rotor engraved with movement specifications highlighted in red, while the column wheel receives a matching red finish that continues the watch’s racing-inspired color scheme into the movement itself.

The forged carbon crown carries TAG Heuer’s shield logo and is positioned between the two black DLC-coated chronograph pushers in a conventional right-side configuration. Sapphire crystal protects the dial, complementing the sapphire window incorporated into the titanium caseback. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).

The matte black dial combines historical Monza references with a substantially more contemporary layout. A sloping outer flange incorporates both tachymeter and pulsometer scales, while white markings and red chronograph indications provide strong contrast against the dark background. The chronograph’s 30-minute counter occupies 3 o’clock, running seconds appear at 6 o’clock, and a framed trapezoidal date aperture is positioned at 9 o’clock.

Applied hour markers are joined by white hour and minute hands, while the chronograph functions are distinguished through red accents. The central chronograph seconds hand is rendered in red, as is the hand within the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, visually separating elapsed-time indications from the regular timekeeping functions. A white printed minute and seconds track around the dial further reinforces the instrument-like layout.

Super-LumiNova is applied to the hour markers and primary hands to provide visibility in low-light conditions. Together with the sharply contrasting white and red markings, the luminous treatment maintains legibility against the matte black dial while preserving the black, white and red palette that connects this contemporary Monza to its motorsport-inspired predecessors.
TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph Carbon
The “TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph Carbon” (Ref#: CR5092.FC8372) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber TH20-12 with 33 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with an integrated flyback chronograph architecture, column wheel, vertical clutch, COSC chronometer certification, central chronograph seconds, 30-minute chronograph counter, small seconds and date display. Power reserve can last up to 80 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted on this watch is a perforated black calfskin leather strap accented with contrasting red stitching and secured by a black DLC-coated titanium folding clasp.

The perforations and red details reinforce the motorsport character of the Monza, while the predominantly black strap continues the visual treatment of the forged carbon case and allows the red chronograph indications to remain the strongest accents across the watch.

The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph Carbon (Ref. CR5092.FC8372) is limited to 500 pieces, marking the 50th anniversary of a model originally created to celebrate Ferrari’s 1976 Formula 1 World Championship victory.
