To celebrate the 57th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, Swatch has unveiled one of the most unusual MoonSwatch releases to date. The new MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon 1969 follows the familiar Speedmaster-inspired formula but introduces a surprising twist by incorporating 11 grams of Omega’s proprietary 18k MoonShine Gold into the dial, crown, and pushers. Limited to 1,969 individually numbered pieces, the watch pays tribute to one of the greatest moments in space exploration while delivering perhaps the strongest value proposition of any MoonSwatch yet.
The Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon 1969 is housed in the familiar Bioceramic case measuring 42mm in diameter and 13.25mm in thickness. Its proportions faithfully mirror those of the iconic Omega Speedmaster Professional, maintaining the instantly recognizable asymmetrical profile, twisted lugs, and chronograph layout that have defined the MoonSwatch collection since its debut.
Turning the watch over reveals a removable battery cover integrated into the caseback, allowing quick battery replacement while protecting the quartz movement beneath. Swatch has also improved durability by fitting the battery compartment with a more scratch-resistant protective cover compared to earlier MoonSwatch models.
The standout feature is found on the outside of the case, where both the crown and chronograph pushers are crafted from solid 18k MoonShine Gold. Alongside the matching gold dial, these components account for approximately 11 grams of precious metal, making this the most luxurious MoonSwatch produced to date. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
The gold dial immediately distinguishes the Mission to the Moon 1969 from previous MoonSwatch editions. Its warm tone recalls the famous gold Speedmasters presented to astronauts and dignitaries following the Apollo 11 mission, often referred to by collectors as the “Nixon” Speedmasters.
At six o’clock appears the historic “OM” marking, standing for Or Massif, the French designation for solid gold that Omega has periodically used since the 1950s. The dial is further engraved with “Au 750,” confirming the use of 18k gold and reinforcing the watch’s unique position within the MoonSwatch family.
Black hands, dial markers, and chronograph details provide crisp contrast against the gold surface, preserving excellent legibility while staying faithful to the aesthetic of the commemorative Speedmasters that inspired this edition.

The “Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon 1969” (Ref#: SSX01B700) is powered by a Swiss quartz chronograph movement displaying the hours, minutes, central chronograph seconds, and chronograph timing functions. The battery-powered movement delivers the reliable precision expected from the MoonSwatch collection while remaining easy to service through the accessible battery compartment integrated into the caseback.
Mounted on this watch is an embossed rubber strap secured by a Velcro closure. The familiar MoonSwatch strap maintains the lightweight and sporty feel of the collection while paying homage to the functional straps historically associated with space exploration and NASA-issued equipment.
