Oris expands its Big Crown Pointer Date collection with a new 40mm stainless-steel model featuring a rich oxblood red dial. Originally introduced in 1938, the Big Crown Pointer Date has become one of the Swiss watchmaker’s most recognizable designs, distinguished by its oversized crown and central pointer hand indicating the date along the dial’s perimeter.
The latest addition belongs to the collection’s more contemporary lineup, combining a smooth bezel, modern pencil-shaped hands and an integrated-style H-link steel bracelet. Powered by the automatic caliber 754, the new model (Ref. 01 754 7798 4038-07 8 20 06) joins the permanent collection in November 2026.
The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Oxblood is housed in a stainless-steel case measuring 40mm in diameter, 12mm thick and 47.5mm from lug to lug. Its contemporary design replaces the fluted bezel associated with the more traditional Big Crown Pointer Date models with a smooth, polished bezel. The case features predominantly brushed surfaces, complemented by polished flanks and contrasting finishes that emphasize its streamlined proportions.
A transparent mineral glass caseback provides a view of the automatic caliber 754, including Oris’ signature red oscillating weight. The movement is based on the Sellita SW200-1 architecture and retains the familiar construction of the brand’s accessible mechanical collection. The transparent back allows the movement’s winding mechanism to remain visible while preserving the watch’s practical, everyday character.
The oversized screw-down crown is positioned at 3 o’clock, retaining one of the defining features of the Big Crown collection. Its fluted construction and polished finish provide a contrast to the brushed case surfaces while facilitating winding and time adjustments. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface protects the dial. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).
The defining feature of this Big Crown Pointer Date is its oxblood red dial, introducing a deep burgundy tone to the collection’s contemporary 40mm design. The rich color provides a contrasting background for the white Arabic hour numerals and peripheral date indications. A railway-style minute track surrounds the central display, while the outer date scale preserves the collection’s signature pointer-date arrangement.
The dial features modern pencil-shaped hour and minute hands, accompanied by a central seconds hand finished in white. The date is indicated by a fourth central hand with an arrow-shaped red tip, pointing toward the numbered date scale around the outer perimeter. The arrangement retains the traditional functionality of the Big Crown Pointer Date while adopting a cleaner and more contemporary appearance than the vintage-inspired models with cathedral-style hands.
White Super-LumiNova is applied to the raised Arabic hour numerals and the interiors of the hour and minute hands, providing visibility in low-light conditions. Additional luminous triangular markers positioned at five-minute intervals along the railway-style minute track reinforce the dial’s legibility.
The contrast between the luminous white indications and the dark oxblood background gives the watch a distinctive appearance while maintaining its practical instrument-watch character.
Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Oxblood
The “Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Oxblood” (Ref. 01 754 7798 4038-07 8 20 06) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 754 with 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vph, or 4Hz. Based on the Sellita SW200-1, the movement provides central hours, minutes and seconds, along with the collection’s signature pointer-date complication operated by an additional central hand. It also incorporates a hacking-seconds function for precise time setting and features Oris’ recognizable red oscillating weight, visible through the transparent caseback. Power reserve can last up to 41 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a stainless steel H-link bracelet featuring alternating brushed and polished finishes that complement the case construction. 
Its contemporary design distinguishes this version from the more traditional Big Crown Pointer Date models commonly paired with leather straps. The bracelet is secured by a stainless steel folding clasp, providing a cohesive appearance suitable for everyday wear.
