IWC Schaffhausen welcomes the upcoming Chinese New Year with a new limited edition of its motorsport-inspired Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41. Departing from the burgundy dials featured on several previous Lunar New Year releases, the new Year of the Goat Ref. IW388310 introduces a gold-colored dial with contrasting black chronograph counters and a ceramic tachymeter bezel accented in gold. The watch also incorporates two distinctive references to the Chinese zodiac, including a gold-plated oscillating weight depicting three goats and a special character appearing in the date display. Limited to 500 pieces, the edition celebrates the Year of the Goat, beginning February 6, 2027.

The IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Year of the Goat is housed in a titanium case measuring 41mm in diameter and 14.8mm thick. Its lightweight construction retains the familiar architecture of the Performance Chronograph collection, introduced in 2023, with a motorsport-inspired design distinguished by a fixed black ceramic bezel featuring a tachymeter scale. For this special edition, the bezel receives gold-colored markings that complement the dial and introduce a warmer appearance to the otherwise technical exterior.

A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the automatic caliber 69385 and its specially designed gold-plated oscillating weight, shaped to depict three goats. In Chinese culture, the imagery references the traditional symbolism of three goats bringing happiness and prosperity, reinforcing the celebratory character of the watch. The commemorative rotor provides a distinctive visual connection to the Year of the Goat while allowing the movement to remain visible through the transparent caseback.

The screwed-in crown is positioned between two traditional pump-style chronograph pushers, providing access to the watch’s winding, setting and timing functions. A convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial and is secured against displacement caused by sudden drops in air pressure. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).

The defining feature of the Year of the Goat edition is its gold-colored dial, introducing a distinctive departure from the black and burgundy tones previously associated with IWC’s Performance Chronograph and Lunar New Year collections. Three recessed black chronograph counters feature snailed surfaces and raised rings, creating a strong contrast against the gold background. Applied Arabic numerals and gold-colored hands preserve the familiar cockpit-instrument styling of IWC’s Pilot’s Watches.

The chronograph maintains its traditional three-counter arrangement, displaying elapsed minutes and hours alongside running small seconds, with a central chronograph seconds hand and a precision seconds track around the dial’s perimeter. A day-date display is positioned at 3 o’clock, incorporating one of the edition’s most unusual details: on the eighth day of each month, the conventional numeral eight is replaced by the Chinese character representing the goat.

Super-LumiNova is applied to the gold-colored hands and Arabic hour numerals, maintaining visibility in low-light conditions. The luminous indications contrast with the metallic dial surface, while the recessed black counters and gold-accented tachymeter bezel reinforce the combination of traditional Pilot’s Watch functionality and the celebratory design associated with the Chinese New Year.
