Breguet Marine Chronograph 5527

Breguet brings a significantly cleaner aesthetic to the Marine Chronograph 5527, updating its sporty flyback chronograph with traditional guilloché craftsmanship and a substantially reorganized display. The established 42.3mm case and automatic caliber 582QA remain, but the former asymmetric three-counter dial gives way to a balanced two-register configuration, accompanied by a centrally positioned date, applied Breguet numerals and hand-guilloché “Quai de l’Horloge” decoration. Offered in titanium, white gold and rose gold, the redesigned 5527 combines the technical foundation of the existing Marine Chronograph with a more restrained expression of Breguet’s traditional design language.
The redesigned Breguet Marine Chronograph 5527 retains its 42.3mm case diameter, 13.9mm thickness and 50.7mm lug-to-lug measurement.

Offered in titanium, 18k white gold or 18k rose gold, the case preserves the characteristic architecture of the modern Marine collection, including its deeply fluted caseband, central lug construction and sculpted crown guards.

A sapphire crystal caseback, secured by seven screws, reveals the self-winding caliber 582QA. Its finishing draws on the collection’s maritime inspiration, with broad decorative stripes recalling the wooden decking of a ship and an oscillating weight shaped to evoke a rudder. The surrounding caseback is crafted from titanium, white gold or rose gold to correspond with the case material.

The screw-down crown is accompanied by the chronograph pushers and framed by the Marine collection’s distinctive protective architecture. A sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment protects the dial, while another sapphire crystal provides a view of the movement from the rear. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).

The dial represents the most significant transformation of the new Marine Chronograph 5527. Its solid gold surface incorporates the hand-executed “Quai de l’Horloge” guilloché pattern at the center, surrounded by a satin-finished hour chapter ring and covered with colored lacquer that preserves the depth of the engine-turned decoration. Applied gold Breguet numerals replace the bolder Roman numerals of the preceding generation, while an applied Breguet signature further reinforces the more traditional presentation.

More importantly, Breguet has reorganized the chronograph itself. The previous three-register configuration, distinguished by sub-dials of unequal sizes, is replaced by two equally sized counters displaying the running seconds and elapsed chronograph minutes. Each receives its own surrounding ring, while the date moves from its former 4:30 position to 6 o’clock, creating a considerably more symmetrical layout. The titanium model receives a grey-to-black gradient dial, the rose gold version transitions from blue toward navy at its edges, and the white gold execution uses a fresh ice-blue to mid-blue gradient with rhodium-plated accents.

The familiar luminous Breguet-style hands remain, providing nighttime legibility against the newly refined dial surfaces. Their luminous treatment combines with the peripheral indications while allowing the applied Breguet numerals to remain visually cleaner and more traditional. The combination of gradient lacquer, hand-guilloché decoration and contrasting satin-finished surfaces gives the revised chronograph greater depth without returning to the visually heavier treatment of the outgoing model.

The “Breguet Marine Chronograph 5527” (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 582QA with 28 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a cam-operated flyback chronograph, silicon hairspring, central chronograph seconds and a 30-minute elapsed-time register, alongside the hours, minutes, small seconds and date. Its flyback functionality allows the chronograph to be stopped, reset and immediately restarted through a single sequence rather than requiring separate operations. Power reserve can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted on these watches are either tone-on-tone rubber straps or three-row metal bracelets matching their respective case materials. The rubber straps feature a textured pattern inspired by the “Quai de l’Horloge” guilloché decoration appearing on the dial and are secured with three-blade folding clasps, while bracelet versions are offered in titanium, 18k white gold or 18k rose gold to match the corresponding cases.
