Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe iN Sedna Gold

A proprietary alloy we’d usually associated with Omega has found its way on to a Blancpain and the results are quite pleasing. This new “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscape Sedna Gold” edition was just recently released and we expect it to garner a fair share of admirers. Its blue colored dial once again appears here as a symbol of Blancpain’s noble commitment to oceanic endeavors and raising environmental awareness.

The 43.6mm case is made of 18k Sedna gold with a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Let’s recall that Sedna™ gold is a proprietary rose gold alloy originally developed by Omega that blends: gold, palladium and copper. The Swatch Group is responsible for both these brands and has aptly chosen to mix things up.

While on this flip-side we can see the gold square-head micrometric regulating screws; plus the gold oscillating weight engraved with the Blancpain logo.

Mounted to the case is a unidirectional satin-brushed sedna gold bezel with a blue ceramic insert, which features Ceragold hour-markers. All topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance on this timepiece can reach up to 300m (984 feet).

Time is exhibited on a sun-burst finish blue dial with rounded index markers made of Liquidmetal®, an alloy suited to avoid distortions. The gold rectangular central hands are based on the original vintage look of this model, which have along with the hourly index markers, been fitted with a luminescent coating for an enhanced legibility.

The Blancpain logo and model name written in a white font appear on the upper-half of the dial. Unlike the recent “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Mokarran” edition, this release has once again included a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
