Panerai marks the 100th anniversary of its historic Florence boutique with the Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01794, a 1,000-piece limited edition that draws directly from the brand’s Florentine heritage. The Piazza San Giovanni location opened in 1926 as “Orologeria Svizzera,” serving as both a retail space and a place where watches were assembled and repaired. For its centenary, Panerai looks to a rare Ref. 6152/1 prototype from the 1960s, translating its distinctive details into a 44mm steel Luminor complete with the historic “Panerai Firenze” dial signature.
The Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01794 features a 44mm stainless-steel case that brings the substantial proportions of the historical 47mm Ref. 6152/1 prototype into a more wearable contemporary format. Its familiar cushion-shaped middle case and bezel are polished, creating a contrast with the brushed finish of Panerai’s signature crown-protecting bridge. A slightly curved, domed sapphire crystal completes the vintage-inspired profile, recalling the Perspex crystals used on Luminor watches during the 1960s.

On the flip-side the PAM01794 features a closed, brushed stainless-steel caseback engraved with an image of Panerai’s historic Florence boutique. Rather than exposing the movement, the solid construction uses the caseback as another direct reference to the centenary being celebrated, depicting the Piazza San Giovanni location that has remained closely associated with the Panerai family and the brand’s Florentine identity.

The crown is protected by Panerai’s characteristic brushed locking bridge, maintaining one of the Luminor’s most recognizable functional and visual elements. Above the dial, the domed sapphire crystal reproduces the curved profile associated with vintage Perspex while offering the durability of a modern crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).

The PAM01794 features a circular-brushed black sandwich dial inspired by the rare Ref. 6152/1 prototype from the 1960s. Its layered construction creates recessed hour numerals and indices, while the pared-back two-hand arrangement keeps the display exceptionally simple. Beneath the 12 o’clock numeral is the distinctive “Panerai Firenze” inscription, a detail derived from the historical prototype that also provides a direct connection to the Florence boutique’s 100th anniversary.

Vintage-inspired double pencil hands receive an unusual blue finish, introducing a subtle touch of color against the otherwise monochromatic black and steel composition. With no date window or running-seconds display, the PAM01794 places its emphasis on the oversized cardinal numerals, simple hour markers, blue hands and Florence signature, preserving the straightforward character of its historical inspiration.

Green Super-LumiNova is applied to the numerals, hour markers and vintage-inspired double pencil hands, providing strong visibility in low-light conditions. The luminous material beneath the cut-out indications also accentuates the depth of Panerai’s familiar sandwich dial construction, maintaining the highly legible character associated with the brand’s historically military-oriented watches.
