Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono A523

The partnership between Bell & Ross and the Renault Sport Formula 1 team, began in 2016. Since then we grew accustomed to seeing new watches being released annually with their black and yellow color theme. This union is still intact but the F1 team has changed its name and colors to the “BWT Alpine F1 Team”. So this year's new “Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono A523” reflects this change in terms of color scheme by being the first watch inspired by the French Alpine F1. Plus they’ve swapped caliber and enhanced this model with a power reserve of 60 hours, versus the previous 38 hours. The 42mm width and 14.25mm height stainless-steel case is crafted with vertically brushed surfaces and polished chamfered sides finish. Mounted to the main case block is a raised and rounded off square bezel with exposed steel screws in each of the four corners. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. At the time of this article we couldn’t access any pictures of the caseback, but we assume it can be decorated with a Formula One or Alpine Team logo.It also comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, while tucked in-between guards is a crown adorned by the Bell & Ross ampersand logo “&”. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with steel  applied hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6 and 12, followed by an alternating minutes/seconds ring track. While circling around a blue sloped flange is a white printed tachymeter scale. It also features two squared sub-dials with a snailed interior: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock with a blue hand and a small seconds aligned at the 9 o’clock position with a white hand. These sub-dials appear slightly receded into the case, almost in a sandwich layer similar to specific Panerai models. An extra touch of color appears in the form of a blue chronograph hand with an Alpine A-shaped logo as a counterweight. Plus on the lower-half of the dial is a small blue, white, and red symbol representing the flag of France. There is also a small round tone-on-tone date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The central steel hour/minute hands, hour index markers, and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
