Since its debut in 2017, the Black Bay Chrono has occupied a unique position within Tudor’s catalog, blending the diving credentials of the Black Bay family with the racing-inspired functionality of a chronograph. While early reactions to this combination were mixed, the collection gradually found its identity through popular Panda models, colourful limited releases, and Formula 1-inspired editions. With the introduction of the new Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee, Tudor delivers one of the most important evolutions in the model’s history. More than just a new yellow dial, this watch introduces a significantly more compact case that brings the Chrono closer to the successful formula established by the Black Bay 58.
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee is housed in a stainless steel case measuring 39mm in diameter, 13.1mm in thickness, and 47mm lug-to-lug. Compared to the previous 41mm generation, the new dimensions make for a noticeably more compact and wearable watch while preserving the robust character expected from the Black Bay Chrono collection. Brushed surfaces dominate the case, complemented by polished accents that enhance its sporty appearance.

Turning the watch over reveals a screw-down caseback that now adopts a slightly more domed profile than previous versions. While still closed, the redesigned rear section improves wrist comfort and contributes to a more balanced overall profile. Combined with the revised case architecture, the watch appears slimmer and more refined despite maintaining the same rugged capabilities.

The new screw-down crown returns to a more traditional shape, while the screw-down chronograph pushers remain in place to preserve the model’s tool-watch credentials.

Above the dial sits a domed sapphire crystal framed by a fixed stainless-steel bezel fitted with a black anodised aluminium tachymeter insert. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).

The Bumblebee edition introduces one of the boldest dials ever fitted to a Black Bay Chrono. Finished in matte yellow, the dial immediately stands apart from the more conservative Panda and reverse Panda models that have dominated the collection in recent years. The vibrant color firmly places this watch within Tudor’s “Daring Watches” family.

Contrasting black chronograph sub-counters create a striking visual effect while reinforcing the racing-inspired personality of the watch. Applied hour markers and blackened Snowflake hands maintain the familiar Black Bay aesthetic, while the date display remains positioned at 6 o’clock for a balanced layout.

Depth is enhanced by the domed dial construction and recessed registers. All hands and markers are filled with white Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent legibility in low-light environments. The combination of bright yellow, black accents, and luminous details gives the watch a playful yet purposeful character that feels distinctly different from anything else in the current Black Bay Chrono lineup.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee
The “Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee” (Ref#: 79310N) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber MT5813 with 41 jewels, and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a column-wheel chronograph architecture based on the renowned Breitling B01 platform, alongside a variable inertia balance and non-magnetic silicon balance spring. The movement is COSC-certified and regulated by Tudor to achieve an accuracy standard of -2/+4 seconds per day. Power reserve can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a three-link stainless steel bracelet with polished and satin-brushed finishes, secured by a folding clasp featuring Tudor’s T-Fit micro-adjustment system. The bracelet feels more contemporary than the riveted designs used elsewhere in the Black Bay collection and complements the sportier nature of the Chrono.

Combined with the reduced case dimensions, the watch delivers noticeably improved comfort on the wrist while retaining the substantial feel expected from a 200-meter chronograph.
