The new Zenith Defy Zero G Sapphire editions, offered in either transparent or deep blue-tinted sapphire, mark the latest evolution of the brand’s patented Gravity Control system, an engineering feat that reimagines the traditional tourbillon. Featuring the gimbal-mounted El Primero 8812S calibre and a case entirely crafted from sapphire crystal, these limited editions showcase Zenith’s commitment to both horological innovation and architectural design.

The case of the Zenith Defy Zero G Sapphire is crafted entirely from blocks of synthetic sapphire, available in either fully transparent or deep blue-tinted versions. Measuring 46mm in diameter, the case showcases the angular, multi-faceted profile characteristic of the Defy collection, with brushed and polished planes that emphasize its geometric structure. Thanks to the inherent transparency and hardness of sapphire, the case offers both a striking visual presence and exceptional scratch resistance.The caseback is also milled from sapphire crystal and secured by polished screws, offering an unobstructed view of the El Primero 8812S calibre. From this vantage point, the intricate architecture of the Gravity Control module can be fully appreciated, along with the laser-decorated platinum counterweight and star-shaped bridges finished in blue and rhodium tones. The openworked design extends across the movement, framing the gears, balance, and bevel gearing system with an aesthetic that’s both celestial and mechanical.The crown is made of polished titanium with a Zenith star relief, flanked by faceted sapphire crown guards. A cambered sapphire crystal safeguards the front of the watch, offering distortion-free legibility of the lapis lazuli sub-dial and the openworked movement. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
The Zenith Defy Zero G Sapphire presents a distinctive dial layout, anchored by a lapis lazuli sub-dial placed off-center at 12 o’clock. This natural stone surface, unique in every piece, acts as the backdrop for the rhodium-plated, faceted hour and minute hands, which are treated with SLN C1 Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in low light. Applied hour markers follow the same luminous treatment, giving the top sub-dial a clean and legible aesthetic while contrasting beautifully against the vivid blue of the stone.Balancing the upper display, the remaining elements are arranged along a horizontal axis: a small seconds counter resides at 9 o’clock, and a power reserve indicator curves across the dial’s right flank near 3 o’clock. Both displays are subtly integrated into the openworked construction, maintaining the visual lightness of the watch while enhancing its mechanical complexity. Despite the asymmetry, the dial layout feels balanced and symmetrical thanks to the careful alignment of sub-dials and apertures.The lower half of the dial is intentionally open to showcase the Gravity Control module suspended at 6 o’clock. Star-shaped bridges in alternating rhodium and deep blue finishes radiate outward from the gimbal system, evoking celestial imagery that aligns with the watch’s cosmic theme. A laser-decorated platinum counterweight, visible within the gyroscopic module, reinforces the astronomical inspiration behind the design while adding dynamic texture to the overall presentation.

The “Zenith Defy Zero G Sapphire Limited Edition” (References below) is powered by the in-house manual-winding mechanical movement, caliber El Primero 8812S with 45 jewels and a high-beat frequency of 36,000 vph. This caliber is equipped with Zenith’s patented Gravity Control self-leveling escapement module, which maintains the balance wheel and escapement in a perfectly horizontal position at all times by means of a two-axis gimbal. Torque is redirected through conical bevel gears and a miniature differential, ensuring consistent energy delivery regardless of the module’s orientation. The movement also features a silicon escape wheel, a nickel-silicon anchor, and a double-arrow regulator for improved resistance to magnetism and wear. Power reserve can last up to 50 hours when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a blue alligator leather strap, lined with rubber for added comfort and durability, and secured by a titanium folding clasp. It integrates seamlessly with the sapphire case, preserving the futuristic aesthetic and technical transparency of the design. While the strap adds a refined elegance to the watch, its robust build also ensures wearability for such a complex timepiece.
Each version of the Zenith Defy Zero G Sapphire is a strictly limited edition of just 10 pieces, making a total of only 20 watches produced.
