Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton

It was only last year that Zenith first introduced their “Defy Skyline” collection, but it keeps expanding. After a time-only and a smaller diameter, now they’ve released a pair of “Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton” editions. This is their first skeleton watch to feature a 1/10th of a second indicator. As the press-release states “Drawing inspiration from modern cityscapes where structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton opens a whole new world of possibilities to what a skeleton watch can be.”

The 41 mm octagonal shaped case is made of stainless-steel with an overall brushed finish. Mounted to the case is a 12-sided bezel with vertical brushing and polished bevels. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a cut-out star movement that matches the differing colors on each model’s dial bridges. It comes equipped with a screw-down crown embossed with the Zenith star. Although the thought doesn’t come to mind at first glance, this model is very star-studded in varying forms. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet). This is an openworked dial with bridges forming the iconic Zenith star shape in blue or black. Time is exhibited with steel applied baton hour indices, while both models include a minute track ring circling around the flange. These four-pointed stars are inspired by the Zenith “double Z” logo of the 1960’s. Between the bridge portions the skeletonized sections reveal several jewels and gears working under the hood of this fine timepiece. A large 1/10th of a second indicator positioned at 6 o’clock can complete a full revolution for every 10 seconds. The sword-shaped central hour/minute hands and hour indices have all been fitted with a luminescent filling for an enhanced legibility.
