Zenith Defy Skyline 36
Although the “Defi” model can be traced back a century ago as a Zenith pocket watch. The model we have before has a much more recent history, since altering its name and expanding into the new “Zenith Defy Skyline” version in 2022. This new year began with the announcement of a simpler and smaller diameter model with multiple colors to choose from, which include diamond studded options. The 36 mm case is made of stainless-steel with a vertically brushed surface and sides finish. This is a reduction of five millimeters compared to the standard 41mm version of the “Defy Skyline”. It also has a solid case back instead of a sapphire exhibition flip-side.Mounted to the case is a multi-faceted dodecagonal shaped bezel with 12 sides (unlike the first Defy models which were designed with 14 sides). This bezel also continues the vertical brushed look of the case with polished accents for contrast. For a substantial price hike these watches can be had with 52 VVS brilliant-cut white diamonds. It comes equipped with a knurled screw-down crown emblazoned by the Zenith’s iconic star emblem. The contours of this watch have a very modern and compact feel to them, as it all flows down towards its stout lugs. All topped by a flat sapphire crystal that gives this watch more of a block form. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a blue, metallic pink, or metallic pastel green dial with rhodium-applied hour index markers, followed by a sloped flange with a printed minute ring. All these dials have a sunray-pattern, but what really catches the eye is the star motif pattern. This grid of four-pointed stars can be traced back to an old Zenith logo. It is a modern reinterpretation of the Zenith “double Z” logo used during the 1960’s. Apparently this star-studded pattern has been slightly updated compared to its previous bigger diameter option. But the similarities are so strong that we can barely see a difference. The central rhodium-plated hands at first glance seem like the typical Zenith style, but they have been given a chiseled, handle-like base. These hands and the hour index markers have all been fitted with a green luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a tone-on-tone date window at the 3 o’clock position.
