Zenith Defy Extreme E Island Prix Special Edition

As a founding member and official timekeeper of “Extreme E” which is the world’s first off-road electric rally racing championship, Zenith has once again crafted a timepiece to celebrate this pioneering sport. This new “Island X Prix” model is a special limited edition that will require a race to your nearest dealer in order to secure a deal. Extreme E only debuted in 2021, but it clearly stands-out from other motorsports by making it their mission to raise climate awareness and promote equality by mandating all teams to be formed by a male and female driver with equally duties. The 45mm case is made of carbon fiber which has unique aesthetic patterns, while offering a lightweight and highly durable construction. Mounted to the case is a matching titanium bezel, while layered between that and the main case is an intermediate 12-sided bezel piece made of micro-blasted titanium. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The rotor has been given a black treatment to mimic the carbon case, and shaped as an openworked Zenith star logo. Plus the “ISLAND X PRIX” logo has been applied directly on the crystal. It comes equipped with two wide pushers to operate the chronograph functions made of carbon fiber, while the blocks they are positioned in, doubling as crown guards, are made of micro-blasted titanium. Then the knurled screw-down crown rising from between their midst, returns to the carbon fiber theme. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 200 meters (656 feet).Time is exhibited using a slightly tinted sapphire crystal dial with rhodium applied hour index markers, followed by a gray ring with black printed minute markings. On the inner flange is a second black ring with an orange printed 100-scale that includes Arabic numerals for every 10-minute increment. There are three openworked counters with orange font: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock, and sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. On the upper-half of the dial a semi-circle appears to frame the Zenith logo, while also including a useful power reserve indicator.Unlike the previous “Zenith Defy Extreme Carbon”, this edition has a bit less color, although that may very well be seen as a positive for many watch users. But it does include extra straps that allow the dark themed carbon fiber aesthetics of this timepiece to be enhanced by using a black strap. Or the user can choose to leave the orange strap and reinforce that hue by matching up with all highlighted time indicators. The central rhodium-plated hands and hour index markers have all been coated with a Super-LumiNova coating, for an enhanced legibility.
