Zenith Defy Extreme Chronograph Carl Cox

Zenith debuted the Defy Extreme in 2021, a robust and high-performance addition to their collection, distinguished by its remarkable high-frequency chronograph capability, capturing 1/100th of a second using two escapements. This model not only embodies Zenith's legacy of precision since the El Primero movement's inception in 1969 but also represents a new pinnacle in technical prowess. In their latest release the Defy Extreme pays tribute to Carl Cox, an eminent DJ and Zenith ambassador, through an exclusive collaboration. The limited edition Defy Extreme Carl Cox edition showcases a distinct design with a nostalgic two-tone case crafted from sandblasted steel and yellow gold, echoing Mr. Cox's DJ background through intricately detailed dial elements. This special edition stands as a testament to Zenith's commitment to both technical excellence and artistic expression, encapsulating the fusion of high-performance engineering and artistic design in horology. The 45mm diameter and 15.4mm height case is majorly made of matte microblasted stainless-steel, and measures in at 41mm from lug-to-lug. Mounted to the case is a matching steel bezel, while layered between that and the main case is an intermediate 12-sided yellow gold insert under the bezel. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It comes equipped with two wide pushers to operate the chronograph functions made of matte steel, while the blocks they are positioned in, doubling as crown guards, are made of yellow gold. The knurled screw-down crown rising from between them has a black coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (656 feet).Time is exhibited using a slightly tinted sapphire crystal dial with gold applied hour index markers, followed by a black ring with white printed markings. On the inner flange is a second white ring with an black printed 100-scale that includes Arabic numerals for every 10-minute increment. There are three counters shaped like vinyl records: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock, and sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. On the upper-half of the dial a semi-circle appears to frame the Zenith logo, while also including a linear power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. The central gold-plated hands and hour index markers have all been coated with a Super-LumiNova coating, for an enhanced legibility.
