As our collective war versus the pandemic lingers on Zenith brings to market a military green wrist watch, combat-ready prepared to put in the time of duty. In fact this is a new take on their “Defy 21” collection that debuted back in 2017. It is a solid watch with a proven track record and equipped with the historic El Primero caliber. The true novelty here is the green ceramic look, which broadens the gamut for those looking to join the “forces” of Zenith. The 44mm tonneau-shaped case is made from a micro-blasted khaki green ceramic with a non-reflective matte finish. Mounted to the case is a matching bezel to reinforces the core color-scheme. While on the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The El Primero caliber on display here has also been permeated with a green balance wheel, among other gears and the iconic Zenith star.It comes equipped with two wide rectangular push-pieces that operate the chronograph functions with a setting-crown in-between them. These elements have been given a contrasting steel look that mesh well with the predominant “jungle” hue. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on an open-worked dial with a visible base plate that’s been tinted khaki green to properly match with the case and overall color scheme. Then a black ring with rhodium-plated hour index markers, followed by smaller white printed minute index markers. While on the outer periphery circling the circumference of the dial is a silver printed 1/100th of a second scale. It includes two contrasting colored sub-dials: a white 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position and a black sub-seconds at the 6 o’clock position. There is also a power reserve indicator at the 12 o’clock positionThe central hour, minute and constant seconds’ hands, as well as the applied hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. The central 1/100 second hand features a Zenith star counter-weight.
