Zenith’s celebrated Chronomaster Sport line expands with a model that looks skyward for inspiration: the new Chronomaster Sport Meteorite. Once released exclusively for the Japanese market, this reference now sees a broader global debut, pairing the signature El Primero high-frequency chronograph with a striking meteorite dial and a restrained, monochromatic color scheme. Retaining all the technical features that made the Chronomaster Sport a modern classic, including the 1/10th second timing scale and El Primero 3600 caliber. This new version distinguishes itself through texture and tone rather than bold color, offering a refined, celestial twist on Zenith’s flagship sports chronograph.
This new Zenith Chronomaster Sport Meteorite maintains the robust and refined proportions of the core collection, housed in a 41mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 13.6mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 47mm. The case is crafted with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, preserving its modern appeal while offering a subtle nod to classic sport chronograph design. Its overall profile feels balanced on the wrist, sizable enough to project confidence, yet measured enough for daily wear.
Flipping the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback that provides a clear view of the in-house El Primero 3600 caliber. The movement is beautifully decorated with sleek, contemporary finishes, allowing enthusiasts to admire the intricate column wheel, skeletonized rotor, and precise layout of the high-frequency architecture. The open caseback underscores Zenith’s ongoing commitment to blending performance and visual finesse.
On the right-hand side, the case features two polished pump-style pushers for operating the chronograph functions, flanking a signed screw-down crown that allows for time and date adjustments. All topped by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, ensuring legibility and durability. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The defining feature of this model is its stunning meteorite dial, cut from an actual iron-nickel meteorite and showcasing the natural Widmanstätten pattern. This celestial texture offers a unique interplay of geometry and randomness, formed over millions of years as molten iron slowly cooled in space. The result is a silvery, patterned surface that renders each dial visually distinct and undeniably rare.
In signature El Primero fashion, the watch retains its tri-color subdial layout, yet here the palette has been reimagined in a refined gradient of white, silver, and grey to harmonize with the monochrome case and dial. Positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, the counters track the chronograph seconds, minutes, and running seconds, respectively. A discreet date window is placed at 4:30, a polarizing yet consistent element in the Chronomaster Sport line.
Polished and faceted rhodium-plated hour markers circle the dial, filled with Super-LumiNova SLN C1 for visibility in low light. Matching central hour and minute hands feature the same luminous treatment, while the chronograph seconds hand makes a full sweep of the dial every 10 seconds, visually reinforcing the high-frequency nature of the El Primero movement. A black ceramic bezel engraved with a 1/10th of a second scale frames the dial, enhancing its technical character.
