Zenith Chronomaster Revival Manufacture Edition

Usually when we hear the expression “toys in the attic”, it may refer to some “crazy” or nonsensical behavior. But, when Zenith went snooping in the attic of their Manufacture headquarters they uncovered a rare prototype, originally conceived in 1969. Now it will finally see the light of day with the release of the new “Zenith Chronomaster Revival Manufacture Edition”.

The 38mm case is made of stainless-steel and features all of the original models curves and finishing touches. They have preserved the case bands and the distinctive lugs, which have been a mainstay on this model throughout most of its iterations. It also comes equipped with two mushroom-style push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions.

As aforementioned it is a faithful reproduction, except for the exhibition case back and updated setting-crown logo. Zenith has also swapped the Plexiglas for a sapphire crystal, but it is still domed like on the original. Water-resistance on this watch is capable of reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).

As aforementioned inspiration for this dial derive from vintage prototypes that were never released and recently found in the Attic of the Manufacture. Time is exhibited on a white dial with still applied hour index markers, followed by small black printed seconds and minute markers.

Subsequently there are two rings reaching out towards the inner flange: a black ring with white minute index marker, with Arabic numerals for every 5-minute increment; followed by a white tachymeter scale with black numerals. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.

It also includes three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position in dark blue; a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position in blue; and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position in light-blue. The central hour/minutes baton-style hands and syringe red seconds/chronograph hand are all also faithful reproductions of the original A386.
