Zenith Chronomaster Open Boutique Edition
At first glance the precision cut we see beaming off this dial can remind us of a surgeon performing an “open-heart” surgery on an operating table. All the doctors among our readers may especially appreciate this new “Zenith Chronomaster Open Boutique Edition” based on that analogy. This model made its triumphant comeback back in 2018 and followed up with a pair of black or white dial options, last year. Now it returns to the spotlight and widens its appeal among enthusiasts of the “blues”.The 39.5mm diameter is made of stainless-steel with a mix of vertically brushed surfaces and polished accents. To further its sleek look the steel mounted bezel on top, also shines with a smooth polished finish. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The caliber is decorated with jewels, blued screws, and a star-shaped winding rotor. It comes equipped with two piston style pushers to operate the chronograph functions. While in between is a knurled crown embossed with the iconic Zenith star logo. All topped by a sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on the front and back. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a sunray blue dial with steel applied hour index markers, followed by a white printed minutes/seconds track ring. Plus circling around the sloped flange is a dark blue ring with a 1/10th of a second scale. There are three sub-dials: a sub-seconds in dark gray with white numerals at 3 o’clock and a 60-minute counter in silver gray with black numerals at 6 o’clock; both with snailed interiors. But, the small seconds at 9 o’clock appears in an open-worked, translucent polymer cut-out section with the white numerals printed directly on the sapphire crystal. This open-worked portion of the dial extends from 9 to 12 o’clock with two smaller circular cut–outs, which highlight a purple hued gear and reveal a balance wheel. The rhodium-plated central hands, hour index markers, and sub-dial have all been fitted with a Super-LumiNova, for an enhanced legibility.
