For those enjoying the Olympics in Beijing you may wanna keep an eye out for or even try to pick up a Chinese exclusive. Vacheron Constantin has a tradition of occasionally releasing timepieces specifically for the Asian market. Just like this recent limited edition “Traditionnelle Tourbillon” from their Métiers d’Art collection. This model has been seen before, but never with this elegant green hued dial. The round 41mm case is made of 18k 5N rose gold with an overall polished finish. A very sleek design with a thin 10.4mm height, plus straight and angular flanks. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It has a notched caseback ring that has been engraved with the unique limited edition number for each of these exclusive timepieces. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the Maltese cross and short stubby lugs. All topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on an Imperial green dial with a sun-ray pattern and 18k gold applied hour index markers, followed by a white printed railroad-motif minutes track. The highest grade of jade is known as "Imperial", which was the direct inspiration for this dial color. In China, the expression “a real gentleman is elegant and dignified just as the Jade”, tends to be used to describe noble and distinguished characters. The dauphine-style hands are made of 18k rose gold matching the case alloy. A simple but elegant layout with the iconic Maltese Cross logo on the upper-half, while the exposed tourbillon movement is located over the 6 o’clock position. This large opening housing a one-minute tourbillon under a bercé-polished bridge is also framed by another railroad track, which allows it to include a small-seconds in its midst.
