Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin
All these recent releases by Audemars Piguet got me wondering about other sports watches with integrated bracelets worthy of attention. Tourbillons are a unique complication, but a perpetual calendar is far more useful for daily use. All this made us recall last year's “Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin” released in white gold, after previously only being available in a pink gold option. The 41.5mm case is made of 18k white gold with vertically brushed surfaces and polished finished accents, while the “ultra-thin” designation derives from its mere 8.1mm thickness. Mounted to the case is a notched bezel that can be seen as evoking the shape of a Maltese Cross, the emblem of Vacheron Constantin. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the mechanical movement. It showcases a 22k gold compass-rose rotor (blue dial), while the skeleton dial option has an open-worked caliber with the rotor and bridges treated in grey ruthenium. It comes equipped with a knurled setting-crown adorned by the Maltese cross, with small push correctors to each of its sides, to adjust the perpetual calendar as required. All topped by a sap[hire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on either a skeleton dial or a lacquered blue dial finished with a sunburst brushed finish. Both feature white gold applied hour index, followed by a sloped flange with a blue 60-minute scale ring. The perpetual calendar is spread out on four snailed sub-dials: the date at 3 o’clock, current day at 9 o’clock, and month at the 12 o’clock position, which includes the months of the leap year.Meanwhile on the lower-half of the dial is a finely detailed translucent two-layer moon-phase sub-dial, aligned at 6 o’clock (skeleton dial). While the blue dial version instead of two-layers has a cut-away that reveals the blue moon-phase disc. The central sword-shaped white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
