Vacheron Constantin continues its 270th anniversary celebrations with the introduction of the Overseas Grand Complication Openface, the brand’s first chiming watch in its signature sports line. Housed in grade 5 titanium and powered by the hand-wound calibre 2755 QP, this new flagship model combines a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, and tourbillon, wrapped in an “Openface” sapphire dial aesthetic that exposes the calendar works while preserving a sleek, modern look. It blends haute horlogerie with surprising wearability and marks a bold step forward for the Overseas collection.
This novelty is housed in a 44.5mm case made from lightweight grade 5 titanium, with a remarkably thin profile of just 7.7mm. The overall silhouette retains the signature notched bezel and strong angular lines of the Overseas family, but with a subtle distinction: the bezel’s sandblasted base replaces the usual satin finish, signaling the titanium construction used exclusively for the brand’s most elite sports models.
On the reverse, a newly engineered screw-fixed sapphire display back reveals the intricate finishing of the manual-wind movement while providing acoustic transparency for the repeater mechanism. This updated construction was developed specifically to preserve the watch’s slim proportions and sound quality without relying on a traditional screw-down system. The rear of the watch also features a power reserve indicator positioned directly on the movement.
It comes equipped with a manually operated slide on the left side of the case to engage the minute repeater, along with a standard push-pull crown for winding and setting. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
Time is exhibited on a transparent sapphire dial with floating white gold hour markers and subdials, allowing a partial view of the perpetual calendar mechanism beneath. The anthracite-toned movement bridges form a contrasting backdrop, while subtle blue accents tie the openface display to the broader Overseas design language. The minutes are tracked on a printed railway-style chapter ring along the outer edge, giving structure to the otherwise airy presentation.Calendar functions are displayed via three subdials: the date at 3 o’clock, day of the week at 9 o’clock, and month at 12 o’clock, with a separate leap year indicator discreetly placed between 1 and 2 o’clock. The omission of a moonphase display allows for a cleaner visual composition and draws attention toward the large aperture at 6 o’clock, which showcases the Maltese cross-shaped tourbillon cage.
Luminous coating is applied to the hour and minute hands, as well as the tips of the applied indices, ensuring legibility in low-light conditions. The matte finish on the anthracite movement components helps reduce glare behind the transparent dial, while the use of openworked calendar wheels and floating displays maintains balance between technical depth and visual clarity.
