Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921
Vacheron Constantin is celebrating 100 years of one of its most recognizable designs. The “Historiques American 1921”, which was inspired by the original cushion-shaped model from the 1920’s with an off-set crown that slightly skews us into a diagonal read as time flies by.This ingenious design was originally requested by an American client, who happened to be very passionate about cars and was seeking a watch that could allow to never lose track of the road. Leading to a diagonal read-off, which was rather “groundbreaking” and truly innovating for the 1920’s. The square cushion case is available in a 36.5mm or 40mm made out of 18k white gold; or a 40mm platinum version. An oddly unique shape with a slightly skewed dial that immediately sets it apart from other models. On the flip-side is a transparent case back, which allows to view the inner workings of this mechanical movement. This caliber has been adorned with the hallmark of Genève and a detailed hand-crafted finishing. It comes equipped with an off-centered ball-shaped crown positioned at the upper right corner of the case. All topped off by a lightly domed sapphire crystal that assists with keeping this watch water-resistant up to 30 meters (98 feet). The silvered grain-finished dial exhibits black painted Arabic numerals (or platinum applied numerals) and a black painted minute railroad track. The whole dial is slightly skewed to the right, with the 12 o’clock position being aligned with the upper right corner, which is where the crown is also located. This original diagonal display was achieved by rotating the interior movement by a 45-degree counter-clockwise rotation. An inclination that allows to control a steering wheel, without needing to twist the wrist towards yourself. It comes equipped with slender open-tipped hands made of blackened 18k gold (or platinum on another version) and also includes a baton-shaped second’s counter. There is a snailed sub-seconds dial between the 2 and 4 o‘clock, which excludes the 3 o’clock numeral to allow its positioning. It also includes a polished 18k gold Vacheron Maltese Cross on the upper portion of the dial.
