Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Blue & Gold

It was about two years ago when Ulysse Nardin first presented their “Blast Collection”, so we’ve been marveled by these mechanical complications before. But the goal of this series is to embrace change as the brand stated “A journey into the future Reinterpreting the essence of Haute Horology with the codes of the 21st century”. This new Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Blue & Gold also marks the “first ever fusion of fiery rose gold and blue that embodies the independent Manufacturer's DNA”.The multi-piece 45mm case is composed of an 18k rose gold uppercase, while the central case and bezel are made of sandblasted blue PVD titanium. These layers measure up to a 13mm height and are crafted mostly with a brushed finish, mixed among detailed polished and sandblasted finishings.On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows us to continue our view from front to back into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features the same blue PVD titanium X which extends from front to back..It comes equipped with a rose gold crown embossed with the UN anchor logo, tucked between small crown guards. The multi-piece case also offers a layered aesthetic with the shifts in hues from rose gold to blue. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on an openworked skeleton dial with applied rose gold indices placed over a blue snailed flange. Besides the various moving gears seen in the background, hovering over it all is a rectangle and double X carved out of blue PVD titanium that transverses both sides of the dial .The upper-half features a platinum micro-rotor at 12 o’clock, which forms its own design sequence with the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. This tourbillon is protected by a blue X-shaped cage which holds within a purple silicium escapement. The rose gold central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent filling for an enhanced legibility.

The “Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon” (Ref#: 1725-400-3A/3A) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber UN-172 with 127 components, and 18,000 vph. It comes equipped with a silicium made balance spring, escapement wheel, and pallet fork. Power reserve can last up to 72 hours, when fully wound.Mounted on the watch is a blue rubber strap with velvet texture, secured to the wrist by a rose gold and blue PVD titanium folding clasp.
