Tudor Northflag GMT

Tudor Northflag GMT

Five years after disappearing from Tudor’s collection, the Northflag is back. Originally introduced in 2015 as an exploration-inspired sports watch and the first Tudor equipped with a manufacture movement, the model was discontinued in 2021 despite its distinctive integrated design. Now entering its second generation, the new Tudor Northflag GMT revisits the 1970s Ranger II-inspired formula with refined proportions, a Master Chronometer-certified movement and a true GMT complication that feels particularly appropriate for its adventurous character.
The Tudor Northflag GMT (Ref. 9140G1A0U) features a stainless-steel case measuring 40mm in diameter, 12.7mm thick and 48.8mm from lug to lug. Predominantly brushed with polished accents, the case retains the angular, tonneau-influenced architecture associated with the Northflag and its 1973 Ranger II inspiration. Compared with the original 2015 North Flag, thickness has been reduced from 13.4mm to 12.7mm and the lug-to-lug measurement from approximately 50mm to 48.8mm. A thinner, fixed brushed bezel is now angled toward the dial and dispenses with the contrasting black ring of its predecessor.

Around the back, a sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the manufacture caliber MT5652-U. The transparent construction recalls an important detail of the original North Flag, which was notable not only for introducing Tudor’s first manufacture movement but also for being the first Tudor watch to display that movement through its caseback.

The screw-down crown adopts a more traditionally shaped profile than that of the previous generation, complementing the streamlined revisions made elsewhere on the case. A box-shaped sapphire crystal sits above the dial, working with the thinner and more sharply angled bezel to give the watch a more slender overall profile. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).

The brushed black dial preserves the high-contrast combination of black, white and yellow that defined the original North Flag while introducing a layout designed around its new GMT functionality. An inner 24-hour graduation is angled at 45 degrees around the dial, replacing the prominent power-reserve indication of the previous generation. Large Arabic numerals and hour markers are made from monobloc luminous ceramic, continuing the functional, exploration-inspired aesthetic while giving the new dial greater definition.

The handset incorporates several distinctive geometries inspired by the historical Ranger II, including an arrow-shaped hour hand and 24-hour GMT hand, baton-shaped minute hand and angular seconds hand. White is used for the primary timekeeping indications, while the seconds and GMT hands introduce the Northflag’s characteristic yellow accents. A date aperture remains positioned at 3 o’clock, while the fixed 24-hour scale allows the yellow GMT hand to display a second time zone.

Luminous material is incorporated directly into the monobloc ceramic hour markers and numerals, while Super-LumiNova is also applied to the primary hands. The contrast between these luminous white indications, the brushed black dial and selective yellow details maintains strong low-light legibility while preserving the graphic character that has distinguished the Northflag since its original introduction.

Tudor Northflag GMT

The “Tudor Northflag GMT” (Ref#: M9140G1A0U-001) is powered by the manufacture self-winding mechanical movement, caliber MT5652-U with 32 jewels and 28,800 vph. Produced by Kenissi, it comes equipped with a variable-inertia balance, silicon balance spring, true GMT function with independently adjustable local hour hand, date display, and both METAS Master Chronometer and COSC certification. Power reserve can last up to 65 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is an integrated-style stainless-steel bracelet with prominent H-shaped main links, reinforcing the angular sports-watch architecture inherited from the 1973 Ranger II and the first-generation North Flag. The bracelet combines brushed and polished steel surfaces and is secured by Tudor’s T-Fit rapid-adjustment clasp, allowing its fit to be adjusted without tools while preserving the cohesive transition between case and bracelet.
