Tudor Black Bay iN 2023

Another major release that occurred at Watches & Wonders 2023 came in the form of an updated Tudor Black Bay. If you can recall this original model was first released in 2012 with a burgundy bezel. For many it marked a renaissance for the Tudor brand, a sort of flagship model that relaunched its value among horology enthusiasts. Since then it followed the Rolex strategy of incremental upgrades by swapping an ETA movement for a Kenissi caliber, and now reintroducing the “Black Bay” for 2023 onward with a Master Chronometer certification. The 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with radial brushed surfaces and polished accents, while on the flip-side is a solid screw down caseback. Mounted to the case is a fluted unidirectional rotating coin edged bezel with a 60-minute diving scale on a burgundy aluminum insert. It comes equipped with a knurled screw-down crown, with the signature Tudor rose logo in relief. This is essentially the same quality case as the original, but housing a METAS certified movement. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on a domed black dial with a mixture of applied gold colored round and rectangular hour index markers, plus a single-triangular mark at the 12 o'clock position. Circling the flange is a gilt printed minute track. The central hand varies with a “snowflake” hour hand and sword-shaped minute hand. While the running seconds takes on the form of the equally recognizable lollipop hand, which has come to replace the standard square seconds hand that previous editions had. All these indicators as well as the hour indices have been given a Super-LumiNova coating for an enhanced legibility.
