Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze
Some timepieces never cease to impress and I believe that is the case for the best-selling vintage-inspired “Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight” diver watch. We’ve seen it take on various forms along these few years in production and today it appears in a bronze case with a special bracelet, as a “boutique” only edition. The 39mm case appears here made of bronze with a brushed finish. For a more accurate description Tudor has stated this as a special aluminium bronze alloy that guarantees improved resistance to corrosion.Mounted to the case is a bronze unidirectional rotating dive bezel with a matt “brown-bronze” anodised aluminium insert featuring a 60-minute scale. This bezel has been crafted with a flat coin edge style providing a better grip and rugged design.Unlike the previous “Tudor Black Bay Ceramic” which had an uncommon exhibition case back. The flip-side of this bronze edition has once again opted for a solid screw-on case back. It comes equipped with a screw-down winding crown adorned by an engraved Tudor rose and chamfered lugs. Plus let’s not forget the “character-inducing” nature of bronze as years give way to unique patina looks. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with a water-resistance capable of reaching up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on a matte brown-bronze dial with a mixture of round, a single-triangular hour index marker, and the Arabic numerals 3, 6 and 9. There is also a minute railroad track circling the dial, near the bezel. It comes equipped with Tudor’s characteristic angular hands commonly referred to as “snowflake hands”, a direct inspiration from the French Navy in the 1970’s. In essence the classic looks we’ve grown accustomed to see on most of the “Black Bay” collection that provide essential elements, except for the inscriptions found on the lower-half in regards to water-resistance and its “Chronometer Certified” status. The numerals, hour index markers and hands have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
