Tudor Black Bay Chrono
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their chronographs, Tudor has updated its most successful collection, the “Black Bay”. This model line has almost single-handedly put the Tudor brand back on wrists and thoughts of many horology enthusiasts. Since its introduction in 2012 this diver’s watch has been a hit, which led Tudor to expand it with multiple complications, various materials and a wide range of color options. The 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with a brushed finish and contrasting polished chamfers and casebands, followed by a solid case back on the flip-side. But, this 2021 edition has been slimmed down from its previous 14.9mm to a thickness of 14.2mm. Unlike the bare brushed steel bezel seen on previous releases. Mounted to this case is a fixed steel bezel with a black anodized aluminum disc engraved with a tachymeter scale in silvered markings. It is a simple, yet major aesthetic modification that visually reduces its perceived size.It also come equipped with a pair of screw-down pushers to operate the chronograph functions, with a screw-down setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a highly domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which also contributes to a visual reduction of its overall size. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 200 meters (656 feet).Time is exhibited on either an opaline white dial with a ring of black printed minute/seconds markers (panda dial) or a black dial with a ring of silver printed minute/seconds markers (reversed panda dial). Both these dials are slightly domed and come with white dotted index markers. It features a chronograph function with two "sunken" sub-dials: a 45-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position; and a sub-seconds at 9 o’clock. The Tudor logo can be seen on the upper-half, while the lower half has the water-resistance printed in a red-font, adding a minor (but notable) highlight to the overall color scheme. There is also a date aperture aligned at the 6 o’clock position. The rhodium-plated central Snowflake hour/minute hands and dotted index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
