Tudor Black Bay Ceramic
Tudor had recently released a series of new timepieces during Watches & Wonders 2021, but they’re back again with a mid-season novelty. At first glance this may seem like just another addition to their successful “Black Bay” collection, but it represents two significant premieres. The new “Tudor Black Bay Ceramic” is the first edition in this model line to be cased in ceramic and more impressively its also the first Tudor watch equipped with a Master Chronometer certified caliber movement. The 41mm case is made of matte black ceramic with a micro-blasted mono bloc middle case.
Mounted to the case is a unidirectional rotatable bezel in black-PVD treated steel, which includes a 60-minute scale graduated disc in black with a sun-ray finish and engraved numerals. This bezel has a flat coin edge style, which provides a better grip by offering a useful tactical touch. On the flip-side is an exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The sights here have the added interest of revealing Tudor’s first METAS certified caliber movement. Take a peek at the video below for a more in-depth exploration of all its intricate moving parts. It comes equipped with a screw-down winding crown adorned by an engraved Tudor rose. The chamfered lugs provide a comfortable wrist fit and adequately accommodate these strap options. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with a water-resistance capable of reaching up to 200 meters (660 feet). Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with a mixture of round and rectangular hour index markers, plus a single-triangular mark at the 12 o'clock position.
There is also a minute railroad track circling the dial, near the bezel. It comes equipped with Tudor’s characteristic angular hands commonly referred to as “snowflake hands”, a direct inspiration from the French Navy in the 1970’s. Inscribed on the lower-half in a discreet dark font is the models “BLACK BAY" moniker, as well as the noteworthy “MASTER CHRONOMETER” reference, which is one of this watches main new upgrades. The numerals, hour index markers and hands have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
