Tudor Black Bay 58 18k

At this year's Watches & Wonders event in 2024, Tudor unveiled new additions to its Black Bay 58 lineup. Back in 2021, Tudor had launched the Black Bay 58 in 18k Yellow Gold, but it was only available with a brown alligator leather strap and a green and gold fabric strap. This year, Tudor has reintroduced this model with several enhancements and, for the first time, has paired it with an 18k solid gold 3-link bracelet equipped with the Tudor T-Fit clasp. Although an 18k gold dive watch might seem unconventional, the lines between high-end jewelry pieces and functional dive watches have been increasingly merging for years. The main critique of the original launch was its lack of a bracelet option. Thus, Tudor has effectively addressed this feedback with the release of the new Tudor Black Bay 58 18k M79018V-0006, much to the delight of its enthusiasts. The 39mm case with a thickness of 12.7mm is made of 18k yellow gold, but has been given a satin finish, as opposed to a glossy yellow gold, endowing it with a bronze-like appearance that pairs exquisitely with the green bezel. This nod to a vintage aesthetic is a hallmark of Tudor's design philosophy, showcasing their expertise in blending classic elements with contemporary craftsmanship. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Housed inside is caliber MT5400, which is COSC-certified and boasts a silicon hairspring for improved accuracy and resistance to magnetism.Mounted to the case is a unidirectional rotating coin edged bezel with a 60-minute scale on a green aluminum insert with gilt markings and numerals. While broad bevels on the lugs create an appealing contrast against the brushed finish of the case, adding a refined touch to its overall appearance. It comes equipped with a knurled oversized screw-down  crown embossed with the signature Tudor rose logo in relief. All topped by a gently domed sapphire crystal, a design choice that pays homage to the classic Tudor Submariner's vintage look, from which this model draws its inspiration. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on a green dial with a mixture of round and rectangular hour index markers, plus a single-triangular mark at the 12 o'clock position. There is also a railroad-motif minute track circling the dial. The dial and bezel of the watch are presented in a matte green hue, beautifully enhanced by gilt texts and markers that add a touch of elegance. It comes equipped with Tudor’s characteristic angular hands commonly referred to as “snowflake hands”, a direct inspiration from the French Navy in the 1970’s. These snowflake hands, along with the second hand and applied hour markers, are infused with Grade A Super Luminova for optimal visibility and are framed by yellow-gold accents to harmonize with the watch's color palette.

Tudor Black Bay 58 18k

The “Tudor Black Bay 58 18k” (Ref#: M79018V-0006) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber MT5400 with 27 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a traversing balance bridge, free-sprung Microstella balance wheel, and non-magnetic silicon balance spring. Power reserve can last up to 70 hours.Mounted to watch is a distinguished solid gold bracelet, which includes a "T-fit" clasp designed for micro-adjustments, enhancing wearer comfort. In contrast to the steel and bronze versions of the Black Bay 58, which featured decorative rivets without practical purpose, this gold version eschews such embellishments. Consequently, the bracelet's design closely mirrors that of the Rolex Oyster bracelet, emphasizing a sleek and functional aesthetic. For more up to date information visit the official Tudor website here.
