Tudor expands its compact dive watch lineup with the introduction of the Black Bay 54 Ref. M79000B, adding a fresh all-blue execution to one of its most wearable modern tool watches. First launched in 2023, the Black Bay 54 reinterprets Tudor’s earliest dive watches in a reduced 37mm format, blending vintage inspiration with contemporary reliability. This new blue variant builds on that foundation, offering a cooler, more vibrant aesthetic while preserving the simplicity and purpose-driven design that define the model.
The 37mm stainless steel case keeps the Black Bay 54’s defining proportions. It measures 11.2mm thick with a 46mm lug-to-lug, making it compact and well-balanced. The finishing is mostly satin-brushed, with polished bevels adding contrast without excess shine.
Turning the watch over reveals a solid screw-down caseback, preserving the Black Bay 54’s utilitarian ethos while ensuring structural rigidity and long-term durability. Its closed construction reinforces the watch’s role as a purpose-built dive instrument, prioritizing reliability over exhibition.
The screw-down crown features the Tudor rose in relief and offers a secure, confident feel. The unidirectional bezel is fitted with a blue aluminium insert, notably without minute graduations, as a direct nod to the 1954 reference 7922.
A domed sapphire crystal adds vintage character and slight distortion at angles. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).
The dial adopts a domed construction and is rendered in a rich blue tone, complemented by a white-printed minute track along the periphery. This clean and focused layout reinforces the vintage-inspired character while introducing a more contemporary and versatile color profile.
Applied hour markers are paired with Tudor’s signature Snowflake hour hand, a sword-style minute hand, and a lollipop seconds hand, maintaining the recognizable design language of the Black Bay collection. The absence of a date display keeps the dial uncluttered and faithful to its historical roots.
Finishing details bring subtle depth to the dial, with the domed surface interacting gently with light. All markers and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent legibility in low-light conditions while preserving the watch’s functional dive-watch credentials.
