As the Formula 1 season roars back to life following the summer break, TAG Heuer marks its renewed role as Official Timekeeper with a daring new edition of its most cutting-edge chronograph. The Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph F1 pairs the brand’s avant-garde design language with a striking white ceramic case and motorsport-inspired red accents, all powered by the ultra-advanced TH81-00 rattrapante movement. Limited to just 10 pieces, this timepiece channels the adrenaline and precision of F1 racing into a sculptural, high-performance wristwatch.
This flashy release is presented in a bold 41mm x 41mm square case crafted entirely from white ceramic, marking a dramatic shift from last year’s black PVD titanium variant. The case combines sandblasted, fine-brushed, and polished surfaces that highlight its sculptural geometry and lend a futuristic edge to this motorsport-inspired timepiece. A polished fixed bezel made of sapphire frames the bevelled and domed sapphire crystal, offering a seamless, high-tech display window over the dial.On the reverse side is a polished sapphire crystal caseback, fully transparent to reveal the technical artistry of the TH81-00 caliber beneath. The open view emphasizes the mechanical complexity of this rattrapante chronograph while preserving the symmetrical harmony of the Monaco’s square case. Despite its sapphire construction, the caseback maintains the clean aesthetic lines and geometric purity that define the Monaco’s avant-garde legacy.
It comes equipped with a screw-down white ceramic crown at 3 o’clock, featuring the TAG Heuer shield in red and green lacquer. Flanking it are shaped white ceramic chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, while the split-seconds pusher at 9 o’clock stands out with a red-accented titanium tube. All pushers are framed by matching ceramic protectors. The crystal is bevelled and domed for maximum clarity and depth. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
Time is displayed on a multi-layered transparent sapphire dial infused with bold red, white, and black accents. The outer perimeter is tinted red, leaving the center clear to reveal the intricate mechanics beneath, while the white minute and second markings float atop this transparent surface. Applied block indices hover at the edge, arranged with precision to complement the geometry of the square case. A red-lacquered split-seconds chronograph hand crosses paths with a white central chronograph hand, while the skeletonized hour and minute hands are mounted at center. Two black-grained subdials positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock serve as chronograph minute and hour totalizers, accented with red, white, and yellow markings that recall the vibrancy of Formula 1 circuits. The permanent small seconds is displayed at 6 o’clock in a rhodium-plated sandblasted ring, subtly understated to maintain focus on the rattrapante mechanism. Notably, the counters are also emblazoned with the print “LIGHTS OUT” and “AWAY WE GO,” echoing the iconic race-start phrase heard on Grand Prix weekends.
The black gold openworked hour and minute hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova, as are the applied indices, ensuring legibility even in low-light conditions. This luminous functionality balances the technical display with practical performance, while enhancing the dynamic, futuristic character of the design.
