TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph Air 1

TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph Air 1

Debuted at Dubai Watch Week 2025, the TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph Air 1 presents a radical reimagining of the brand’s iconic square-cased chronograph. With its ultra-light titanium construction enhanced by selective laser melting, a highly complex rattrapante chronograph caliber, and an avant-garde fusion of textures and finishes, this limited edition of just 30 pieces stands as one of the most ambitious iterations of the Monaco ever produced.

The case of the TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph Air 1 reinterprets the iconic Monaco silhouette through a futuristic lens. Measuring 41mm in diameter and constructed via selective laser melting (SLM) from Grade 5 titanium powder, the case embraces a dramatically layered and asymmetric architecture. Each angle reveals a composition of multiple strata from the matte titanium core to black DLC-coated titanium accents and polished 18K yellow gold inserts, creating a highly dynamic, sculptural profile. Inspired by the world of modern racecars, the case integrates elements reminiscent of vents and aerodynamic intakes, particularly in the offset “grilles” at 11 and 7 o’clock, where honeycomb latticework in gold gleams beneath dark overlays.Around back, a faceted sapphire display caseback showcases the intricate TH81-00 movement in full glory. The sharply cut titanium backplate frames a sculptural view of the movement, which is composed of skeletonized bridges with TAG Heuer’s signature checkered-flag motif and an exposed column wheel. A shield-shaped rotor mirrors the honeycomb case detailing, further tying together the case and caliber thematically. The crown is positioned traditionally at 3 o’clock, crafted in DLC-coated titanium for both durability and visual coherence. All of this is topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, securing distortion-free visibility of the skeletonized dial beneath. Water-resistance can only reach up to 30 meters (100 feet), reflecting the complex, open-structure case construction and the watch’s focus on avant-garde engineering over rugged utility.
The dial of the TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Chronograph Air 1 embraces an architectural, skeletonized aesthetic that prioritizes visual drama over traditional readability. Framed by a floating sapphire crystal minutes track, the dial reveals the intricate mechanics below, most notably the two arched black bridges that anchor the chronograph subdials. This structural motif adds a sense of depth and complexity, guiding the viewer’s eye toward the center without overwhelming the composition.Chronograph indications include a rattrapante-equipped central seconds hand, rendered in a broad, needle-like design, alongside symmetrical subdials positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock, all executed with a minimalist, futuristic geometry. At 6 o’clock, a pared-down running seconds register completes the display, adding to the dial’s geometric harmony without drawing unnecessary attention. The color palette maintains a modern, monochrome base punctuated by refined golden accents. These include both the chronograph hands and surrounding mechanical elements, which shimmer beneath the matte black framework, introducing contrast and a subtle sense of luxury. Super-LumiNova is applied to the hands and key markers, ensuring nighttime legibility without detracting from the skeletonized design’s theatricality.
