TAG Heuer Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique

TAG Heuer has released a new special edition of their popular “Monaco” model. Recently TAG Heuer was appointed the Official Sponsor and Timekeeper of the Grand Prix de Monaco and the Official Watch Partner of the Monaco Top Cars Collection museum. To celebrate such an honor they have rolled out this new limited edition “Grand Prix de Monaco Historique” model.

This years 12th edition of the Grand Prix de Monaco was scheduled to take place from the 8th to 10th of May, 2020. But, as with so many other events it has also been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) has already begun planning their next edition, which he hope to learn more about as soon as global affairs begin to stabilize.

The 39mm case is made of stainless-steel with a mixture of fine-brushed and polished finishing, all condensed in its iconic square shape with a matted bezel. Meanwhile on the flip-side this model has been given an exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of its new caliber movement. The crystal has been engraved with the “MONACO GRANDPRIX HISTORIQUE” inscription using a bold outlined multi-colored font.

It comes equipped with two steel alternate shaped push-buttons that operate the chronograph functions, with a polished setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a domed and beveled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).

Time is exhibited on a grey and red dial, while circling around its anthracite mid-center are round red-toned hour index markers, followed by smaller black minute index markings circling within the square dial perimeter. Outside of these markings are longer steel-applied rectangular shaped hour markers, aligned with the dotted indexes.

Usually the Monaco features a bi-compax dial, but this edition has switched to a tri-compax. So, it includes two red sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position; plus the “tri” element in the form of a subtle sub-seconds aligned at the 6 o’clock spot. The central hands and index markers have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
