TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Night Driver
The TAG Heuer Monaco Night Driver represents the latest addition to the brand's collection of limited-edition driver's chronographs, offering a fresh and contemporary appearance while aligning with the current trend of luminous dials that have been popping up. The new Monaco watch is designed to celebrate the experience of driving at night and the importance of having easily readable instruments during such nighttime journeys. In this context, TAG Heuer has put considerable effort into ensuring that the Monaco offers excellent legibility in low-light conditions and from our viewpoint it seems their attention to detail has proven to be effective. The iconic square shaped 39mm case is made of grade 5 titanium, coated in a black DLC (diamond-like carbon) material with a mix of brushed surfaces, casebands and polished bevels. Mounted by a fixed bezel in the same matching alloy. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a black open-worked rotor decorated with Geneva stripes and a flashy turquoise colored font and gear. It comes equipped with two rectangular alternate shaped push-buttons on the right-side of the case to operate the chronograph functions. In between them is a setting-crown embossed with the TAG Heuer logo. All topped by a domed and beveled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance is capable of reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a two part dial with a concentrically brushed central disc in anthracite, plus a chapter ring in Super-Luminova that is light gray during the day and a vivid blue at night. The luminous chapter ring boosts nighttime legibility since the applied hour markers stand out in stark contrast against the blue lume.So during the day, the Night Driver shows off a gray color scheme, but when night falls, it undergoes this distinct transformation. The overall design maintains the classic vintage look, but by incorporating a luminescent chapter ring and sub-dials for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions, the Night Driver takes on a completely different persona. This unique idea is a homage to the Singapore Grand Prix, known as the inaugural Formula 1 night race.It features the classic tri-compax layout with two sloped square sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. While a small seconds with a blackened hand, stands-out among the gray background and the discreet light gray lines in the center of the lower-half.The central sword-shaped rhodium-plated hands and applied hour index markers, have all been fitted with a SuperLumiNova coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a white date window with black numerals, located at 6 o’clock.
