TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Dark Blue CBL2188
TAG Heuer continues to honor its motorsport legacy through its iconic Carrera and Monaco collections. The Monaco, launched in 1969 and renowned as one of the most emblematic chronographs in modern history, has served as a platform for innovation, including a recent complex split-seconds version. As the 2024 Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix approaches, TAG Heuer has introduced a new iteration of its Monaco Skeleton Chronograph. This latest model features a dark blue theme with a black DLC titanium case, maintaining the brand's tradition of timely updates ahead of major racing events. The iconic square shaped 39mm case is made from grade 5 titanium, then coated in a black DLC (diamond-like carbon) finish, featuring a combination of brushed surfaces and polished bevels. It is complemented by a fixed bezel made from the same matching alloy, enhancing its sleek and durable design. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a black open-worked rotor decorated with Geneva stripes and a vibrant yellow colored font and upper gear. It features two rectangular alternate-shaped push-buttons on the right side of the case, designed to operate the chronograph functions. Positioned between these buttons is a setting crown, embossed with the TAG Heuer logo, enhancing both functionality and brand identity. All topped by a domed and beveled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance is capable of reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a sandblasted dark blue base with an opaline blue module on top that includes the minute track and sub-dials, followed by carved indexes that add a dynamic graphic element. A splash of yellow on all chronograph-related hands and an openworked date disc over a white background further accentuate the design. The combination of black and blue, despite the traditional fashion rule advising against it, works quite well for this model. It features the classic tri-compax layout with two sloped square sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. While a small seconds with a white hand, still manages to stand-out among the open-worked background of rotating gears in the center of the lower-half.The central sword-shaped rhodium-plated hands and applied hour index markers, have all been fitted with a SuperLumiNova coating, for an enhanced legibility. This blue-ish hue reflects off the yellow chrono and sub-dial hands with an alluring contrast. There is also a white date window with black numerals, located at 6 o’clock.
