TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Chronograph with Gold Dial

During most of this year TAG Heuer celebrated the significant 60th-anniversary of their iconic Carrera model. This milestone event led to introducing several new timepieces to the collection, much to the delight of enthusiasts. Among them was a vintage-inspired “Carrera Glassbox” in a panda edition. Now that same concept returns in a gold case and a matching gold dial, except for a similar panda touch on the counters.The 39mm case is made of 18k 3N yellow gold with polished surfaces that contrast with vertically brush finished case bands. This particular alloy is composed of 76% pure gold, 12,5% silver, and 12.5% copper.Mounted by a fixed bezel that secures a boxed-shaped sapphire crystal. The opposing finishing touches gain an extra prominent shine as the gold is crafted into the trademark Carrera style lugs.On the flip-side is a transparent sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an openworked steel oscillating weight.It also comes equipped with two gold piston style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, plus a knurled setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a 18k 3N gold-brushed dial with gold hour index markers, followed by an outer chronograph track ring in black, circling around the sloped flange periphery.This slope occurs at a more pronounced angle than usual, for a very close-cut edge. The matching hue of the case and dial provide a very solid design. The tri-compax layout appears with two black sub-dials with circular-grained interior: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. The small seconds appears between them with a black hand, but no circular outline, which allows it to blend into the overall golden tones.  The central gold hands and dotted hour index markers running along the edge flange have all been coated with a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. Plus a non-lume blackened central chronograph hand to keep track of timed laps. There is also a gold frame date window at the 6 o'clock spot, which breaks the dominant hue by having a white background.

The “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Gold” (Ref#: CBS2240.FC8319) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber Heuer 02 (also designated as TH20-00) with 33 jewels, 168 components and 28,800 Vph. It comes equipped with a column-wheel operated chronograph, plus a vertical clutch providing high-quality chronometric accuracy.
