TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963
This weekend, on Saturday the 15th, we’ll be attending one of the most legendary car races of all time, the 101st edition of the 24h of Le Mans. Just like in Formula 1, watches are everywhere at this prestigious event. While Rolex serves as the official timekeeper, many other watch brands also sponsor teams, including Moser with Alpine, Richard Mille with Ferrari, and TAG Heuer with Porsche. To celebrate their partnership, TAG Heuer has unveiled one of its most modern and bold versions of its racing chronograph, paying tribute to the car competing in the endurance race. Introducing the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963.The 44mm case with a thickness of 15.1mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.7mm is made of brushed and polished stainless steel, featuring a PVD-coated grained hollowed side with the Porsche logo. This large, sporty, and technical case design embodies the essence of endurance racing and is inspired by the Porsche 963 competing in the 24h of Le Mans. The case includes a black forged carbon tachymeter fixed bezel with the Porsche logo in luminescent printing, providing both functionality and a striking visual impact. On the flipside is a caseback secured with four screws, featuring a sapphire crystal that reveals the in-house Calibre TH20-00 (Heuer 02) movement. The movement is decorated lightly and includes a rotor shaped like a Porsche steering wheel, adding a touch of automotive flair. The caseback also displays the individual number of each watch, out of the 963 limited pieces, emphasizing its exclusivity and connection to the endurance race.It comes equipped with a black DLC-coated crown and pushers, as well as a mid-link engraved with "963," mimicking the NACA air inlets found on race cars. The combination of these elements, along with the fixed bezel and angular case design, gives the watch a bold and modern look that stands out. All topped by a beveled, domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on a skeleton dial with NAC finishing, featuring a black flange with a 60-second minute scale and three black sub-counters for the chronograph and running seconds. The openworked design uses circular shapes and a radial-style spiderweb reminiscent of Porsche’s racing car chassis, retaining a classic tri-compax display with closed sub-dials to ensure legibility. The dial includes white Super-LumiNova block indexes, with a red one at 4 o’clock to mark the start of the 24h of Le Mans. Rhodium-plated faceted and polished hour and minute hands with Super-LumiNova coating, along with a red lacquered central chronograph hand, provide excellent visibility. The date is displayed on a black openworked disc, coated with Super-LumiNova for readability in low light conditions, making the watch practical for night use during endurance races or walking urban landscapes.
