The Carrera name holds significance for both TAG Heuer and Porsche, as each brand draws inspiration from the thrilling yet dangerous Carrera Panamericana rally that took place in Mexico in the 1950s. Although the event was discontinued in 1954 due to safety concerns, it was revived in 1988 and continues to this day. 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of Porsche’s victories at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, where the Porsche 550 Spyder claimed first and second in the under 1500cc sports car class and third and fourth overall. To commemorate this milestone, TAG Heuer has unveiled the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana, a limited edition of 255 pieces inspired by the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder and its historic racing success.
This commemorative watch features a 42mm stainless steel case with a robust thickness of 15.1mm and a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.7mm, giving it a commanding wrist presence. The case incorporates alternating brushed and polished surfaces, adding texture and visual appeal. The design is further accentuated by a domed sapphire “Glassbox” crystal, which harks back to the vintage style of the 1970s, draping over the edges of the watch to cover the 60-minute scale black flange.
It comes equipped with angled lugs that transition smoothly into the black calfskin strap, while the stainless steel crown and pushers offer easy operation of the chronograph functions. Topped by a domed sapphire crystal, the case is designed for both durability and legibility. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).
The dial draws heavily from the Porsche 550 Spyder’s racing livery, with a silver, black, and yellow palette dominating the design. The skeletonized dial is shaped to resemble the wheels of the car, while the shimmering dial plate mimics the bodywork of the classic Porsche. The grained-finished black details represent the road asphalt, offering a tactile contrast to the metallic elements.
A trio of yellow lacquered hands, one at the center, one on the chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock, and one on the chronograph hour counter at 9 o’clock, replicates the bold yellow found on the number 55 stickers that adorned the race car. The dozen lume plots, adjacent to the faceted and polished rhodium-plated applied indexes, are also highlighted in yellow, adding further continuity to the design. At 6 o’clock, the dial features a tourbillon, one of the watch’s standout complications.
The watch is also rich in branding, featuring split “Carrera Panamericana” text on the dial, the TAG Heuer shield below 12 o’clock, and a “Porsche” inscription on the flange. The combination of these details ensures that both brands are well-represented on this special edition.
The hands and indexes are treated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring that the watch remains legible even in low-light conditions. This luminescent material is especially useful for a racing-inspired watch, where precision and visibility are key.

The “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana” (Ref#: CBS5012.FC6571) is powered by the in-house self-winding COSC-certified mechanical movement, caliber TH20-09 tourbillon movement with 33 jewels, and 28,800 Vph. Power reserve can last up to 65 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on the watch is a black perforated calfskin leather strap, designed to evoke the sporty feel of automotive racing. The strap’s underside is lined with yellow leather, which is visible from the sides and top, adding a striking contrast to the dark exterior.
The strap is secured by a brushed and polished stainless steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons.
