TAG Heuer’s deep connection to motorsport takes center stage once again with the release of a bold new chronograph that celebrates the 75th anniversary of Formula One. Known for its pioneering spirit in both high-performance timekeeping and cutting-edge design, the brand delivers a fitting tribute to the world’s premier racing series with the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport F1 75th Anniversary Limited Edition. Featuring a yellow gold tachymeter bezel, openworked dial with a flying tourbillon, and a custom-engraved caseback that ties each of the 75 units to a specific F1 season, this new Carrera represents both a technical showcase and a collector’s talking piece.
The case measures 44mm in diameter and is made from lightweight Grade 2 titanium, with an assertive silhouette that borrows from TAG Heuer’s Extreme Sport design language. The sharply faceted lugs feature inward bevels, and the case sides are accented by sculpted air-duct-like recesses. These sporty flourishes give the watch an aggressive presence, enhanced further by the use of contrasting materials and finishing throughout.
Flipping the watch over reveals a sapphire exhibition caseback framed by bold custom engravings. Instead of traditional numbering, each of the 75 limited pieces is individually marked from “1950” to “2025,” symbolizing each season of Formula One’s history. The sapphire window itself is adorned with a golden laurel wreath and F1 emblem, while the visible components beneath include the automatic rotor and partially skeletonized movement bridges.
A screw-down crown in black DLC-coated titanium is flanked by robust chronograph pushers, completing the watch’s aggressive profile. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment safeguards the front of the watch, offering excellent clarity despite the complexity of the dial. Water-resistance is rated at 100 meters (330 feet), providing solid durability for daily wear, even in active or sporty conditions.
The openworked dial structure carries over from previous Extreme Sport Tourbillon models but takes on an entirely new visual identity with the use of 18K yellow gold plating across the multi-spoke upper bridges. These elements are vertically brushed with deep-grained matte black recesses, producing a dynamic contrast that evokes the textures of racetrack asphalt.
A checkerboard-patterned black upper plate serves as the backdrop for the rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, while gold-toned subdial hands and a gold needle chronograph seconds hand maintain a cohesive theme. The open apertures at 12 and 6 o’clock reveal the mainspring barrel and the tourbillon respectively, each adding depth and motion to the composition. Despite the complexity, legibility remains strong thanks to smart layering and selective polishing.
Of special note is the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, which features a minimalist three-spoke cage. Its subdued rhodium finish mirrors the surrounding handset and complements the more luxurious golden components, creating a sense of visual balance rather than excess. The result is a skeleton dial that still reads as a tool watch while pushing the limits of mechanical spectacle.

The “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport F1 75th Anniversary Limited Edition” (Ref#: CBU5051.FT6272) is powered by the in-house automatic calibre TH20-09, with 33 jewels, and 28,800 vph. This movement is an evolution of the Heuer 02T, redesigned by Carole Forestier-Kasapi. It combines a column-wheel chronograph with a one-minute tourbillon. It comes equipped with bi-directional winding, a redesigned gear train to reduce the rotor’s noise, and is COSC chronometer certified. Power reserve can last up to 65 hours when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a black rubber strap with semi-integrated lugs, closed by a titanium folding clasp. It echoes the watch’s racing DNA with sculpted center vents inspired by NACA air ducts, while providing a secure and comfortable fit on the wrist. This sporty configuration enhances the technical aesthetic of the titanium case, creating a coherent and ergonomic whole.
Only 75 pieces of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport F1 75th Anniversary Limited Edition will be produced. Each watch is individually numbered not in sequence, but by year, starting from 1950 and ending with 2025, allowing every unit to symbolically represent a specific Formula One season and its respective world champion.
