TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Tourbillon iN Green
Last year, TAG Heuer commemorated the 60th anniversary of the legendary Carrera chronograph with the unveiling of two remarkable timepieces: the Carrera Glassbox and a 42mm Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon. Both watches boast seamlessly integrated domed sapphire crystals, paying homage to the classic Carrera models with their refined ergonomics and clean aesthetic. Originally introduced with a captivating blue dial featuring silver accents, polished sub-dials, and a vibrant orange chronograph seconds hand, these technical marvels embody the spirit of a high-performance racing chronograph. Responding to contemporary tastes, TAG Heuer has expanded its collection to include teal green models, including the new Tourbillon variant, adding a touch of sophistication to the lineup and creating a true statement piece. The 42mm diameter case with a height of 14.33mm is made stainless-steel with a mixture of polished surfaces and vertically brushed caseband finish. The lack of a bezel is due to the presence of a box glass crystal that covers it, forming a smoothly curved surface. This design choice provides additional room for the dial to stand out prominently. On the flipside is a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a redesigned openworked rotor shaped as a coat of arms from the TAG Heuer logo.It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, plus a riveted setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal in a box glass form with double anti-reflective treatment. Even with the addition of a tourbillon, the timepiece maintains water resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a teal green dial with applied hour indices that include dots over each one. Circling around the flange is a 60-second minute scale with white markings. The flange and indices seem angled because of the box-style edge of the crystal..The main center portion of the dial has a circular brushed finish and within it are two sub-dials with sloped rings and interiors snailed interiors: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock positionPositioned at the 6 o'clock position is a prominent steel-framed tourbillon, contributing to a notable aperture indentation. While the combination of a chronograph and tourbillon is not unprecedented for TAG Heuer, crafting a complication involving a continuously rotating cage surrounding the escapement demands precise expertise in design. The central hands and hour dots over the indices, all rhodium-plated, have been coated with a green luminescent filling to enhance legibility. Additionally, it incorporates a discreet central chronograph hand, which can be activated to track time laps during various activities.
