TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Tourbillon

Among recent releases by TAG HEUER is this more complex "Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Tourbillon" which combines a chronograph complication with a tourbillon. This combination has been crafted by the brand before, but it still manages to impress. While in terms of design the absence of a bezel allows for more space to showcase the artisans craftsmanship. The 42 mm case is made stainless-steel with a mixture of polished surfaces and vertically brushed caseband finish. There is an absence of a bezel because the incorporation of a box glass crystal is covering the bezel portion and creating a domed surface. This design allows more space for the dial to pop out.On the flipside is a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a redesigned openworked rotor shaped as a coat of arms from the TAG Heuer logo.It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, plus a riveted setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal in a box glass form with double anti-reflective treatment. Despite the inclusion of a tourbillon, water-resistance can still reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on an intense blue dial with applied hour indices that include dots over each one. Circling around the flange is a 60-second minute scale with white markings, which turn orange for each hourly increment. The flange and indices appear sloped due to the crystal’s box style edge. The main center portion of the dial has a circular brushed finish and within it are two silver ringed sub-dials with snailed interiors: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock positionAt the 6 o’clock spot is a large steel framed tourbillon that creates a significant aperture indentation. The chronograph and tourbillon duo isn’t a first for TAG Heuer. But designing a complication which involves a continuously rotating cage that surrounds the escapement requires precise expertise to design.  The rhodium-plated central hands and hour dots over the indices have all been coated with a green luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes an orange lacquered central chronograph hand, which can be activated to keep track of time laps during any race activity.
