TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of their prized Carrera, TAG Heuer recently introduced the “Chronograph Glassbox Tourbillon” with a redesigned sapphire crystal that covered the full diameter of the watch. This is an historic approach with modern finishing touches to provide unique aesthetics. Plus the absence of a bezel provides more canvas area and a wide frame of view. Now a new pair of less complicated “Carrera Chronograph Glassbox” models have been released with distinct layout designs. The 39 mm case is made of stainless-steel with a mixture of polished surfaces and vertically brushed caseband finish. There is an absence of a bezel because the incorporation of a glass box crystal is covering the bezel and creating a domed surface. This design allows more space for the dial to pop out.On the flipside is a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a redesigned openworked rotor shaped as a coat of arms from the TAG Heuer logo.It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, plus a riveted setting-crown engraved with the Heuer logo. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal in a box glass form with double anti-reflective treatment. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on either a blue or black dial with applied hour indices that include dots over each one. Circling around the flange is a 60-second minute scale with white markings. The flange and indices appear sloped due to the crystal’s box style edge.It includes three sub-counters with snailed interiors, but both models differ from each other. They both have a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. But, the blue version has a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock with a date window, while the black version has the sub-seconds at 12 o'clock with a date window. The blue dial also maintains the same hue all throughout, while the black dial has silver subdials. This color scheme makes it a “reverse panda” dial. Thanks to the curved crystal there is space for a tachymeter scale to run along the flange. This layout also makes the tachymeter readable from a wider range of angles. The rhodium-plated central hands and hour dots over the indices have all been coated with a green luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. It also includes a central steel chronograph hand, which can be activated to keep track of time laps.
