Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller
This year at Watches & Wonders we’ve been treated to several new releases in the Rolex Universe. First up let’s look at a trio release of the “Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller” with unique color combinations. This collection debuted back in 2012 and has since then been crafted in various alloys. One of the biggest updates comes in the form of the new caliber 9002 movement, which is an evolution of the original caliber 9001 movement. The 42mm case is available in either 18k white gold, Everose gold, or Rolesor (which is a blend of stainless-steel and 18k gold), all with a fluted case back that is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. Mounted to the case is a bidirectional fluted bezel with the “Ring Command” system for setting functions, which can be utilized in conjunction with the crown as it rotates. It comes equipped with a setting-crown fitted with the Twinlock double waterproofness system that screws down securely against the case. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time can be seen with a bright black dial (white gold), mint green (Rolesor), or blue-green (Everose) which is the only color exclusively unique to this model. All of them come with wide rectangular hour index markers, which was a 2017 novelty that has become a standard, since prior to that traditionally Sky-Dwellers either had exclusively Arabic or Roman numerals, never “sticks”. These index markers also help distinguish the new era of the “Sky-Dweller”, from previous models at a glance; besides offering more surface for the luminescent filling that translates to an improved legibility. Pointing out the time are also the longer hands that originally debuted on the 2016 “Rolex Explorer” and that further contribute to a swift time read. Then we have its standard off-set dial with a second time zone that is indicated by a fixed inverted red triangle. Which makes this another GMT watch option, for those who don’t appreciate the “Rolex GMT Master” models. It also includes a date aperture with a cyclops lens at the 3 o’clock position.

It comes equipped with high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers and a new oscillating weight with an optimized ball bearing. Power reserve can last up to 72 hours, when fully wound.Mounted to the watch is either an 18k everose gold Oyster bracelet or a black rubber Oysterflex bracelet (on the white gold version) which is put together by flexible metal blades overmolded with high-performance elastomer; while secured to the wrist by a folding Oysterclasp with a Rolex Glidelock extension system (that can extend 15mm in increments of 2.5mm).
