Rolex GMT-Master II with Tiger’s Iron Dial
For the first time since the introduction of the modern ceramic “Root Beer” GMT in 2018, Rolex adds a bold new variation to its Everose gold travel watch. This time with a dial hewn from tiger’s iron, a layered natural stone known for its rich banding of gold, red, and deep brown. Unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2025, this new reference introduces both a new material and a fresh visual identity to one of Rolex’s most beloved modern precious-metal GMTs. It’s a subtle but striking evolution that highlights the Crown’s ongoing interest in integrating exotic dials into its most recognizable tool watches.
The new tiger’s iron dial version of the GMT-Master II 126715CHNR preserves the familiar 40mm Oyster case, rendered entirely in solid 18k Everose gold, which is Rolex’s proprietary rose gold alloy known for its warm, coppery tone and exceptional resistance to fading. The case architecture follows the brand’s tried-and-true formula with gently curved lugs, robust shoulders, and a blend of finishes that include satin-brushed top surfaces and polished case flanks for visual contrast and refinement. The reverse side is sealed with a solid screw-down caseback in matching Everose gold, which plays its part in the watch’s durability and water resistance.
On the dial side, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with Rolex’s Cyclops magnifier sits flush atop the case. Framing the crystal is the hallmark bi-directional GMT bezel, featuring a brown and black Cerachrom ceramic insert with engraved, Everose gold-filled numerals, as a subtle nod to the “Root Beer” nickname embraced by collectors.
The Triplock screw-down crown, equipped with three gaskets for added security, threads into a reinforced crown tube and locks into place with the precision one expects from Rolex. Together with the caseback and sapphire crystal, it enables water-resistance to reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
What sets this new reference apart is its richly patterned dial, crafted from a natural slice of tiger’s iron, which is a metamorphic rock formed by layers of tiger’s eye, red jasper, and hematite. The result is a dynamic interplay of earthy browns, deep reds, and golden streaks that shift with the light, giving each dial a unique organic character. No two examples will be identical, reinforcing the exclusivity of the stone.
The layout remains consistent with other GMT-Master II references, including the classic Mercedes-style hour hand, arrow-tipped 24-hour hand, and the familiar 3 o’clock date aperture beneath the Cyclops magnifier. Applied Everose gold hour markers punctuate the surface, framed in matching gold to coordinate with the case and bezel, ensuring visual harmony throughout the design.
While the tiger’s iron dial is the star of the show, Rolex still ensures legibility. The hands and hour markers are filled with Chromalight, the brand’s proprietary luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow in low-light conditions, maintaining clarity without detracting from the rich visual texture of the natural stone.
