Rolex expands the boundaries of its most coveted chronograph with the Cosmograph Daytona Rolesium (Ref. 126502), introducing a striking new configuration that departs from decades of conservative steel offerings. Combining Oystersteel with platinum, a material pairing known as Rolesium, this latest iteration brings unexpected features to the forefront, including a white grand feu enamel dial, a redesigned anthracite ceramic bezel with vintage inspiration, and, notably, an exhibition caseback revealing the calibre 4131. It marks a rare moment where tradition, material innovation, and modern watchmaking transparency converge within one of Rolex’s most established references. The 40mm Oyster case remains faithful to the updated proportions introduced in 2023, featuring a slightly more symmetrical architecture with broader lugs and a refined profile. Crafted primarily from Oystersteel, the case is complemented by polished surfaces and integrated crown guards, maintaining the robust and purposeful identity of the Cosmograph Daytona.
Turning the watch over reveals one of the most significant updates: a platinum screw-down caseback fitted with a sapphire crystal, allowing a clear view of the movement within. This marks the first time a predominantly steel Daytona features an exhibition caseback, bringing a new level of mechanical appreciation to the model while maintaining its structural integrity.
The case is equipped with a Triplock screw-down crown and chronograph pushers, ensuring secure operation and durability. Topped by a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while the monobloc Cerachrom bezel in anthracite ceramic, composed of zirconia enriched with tungsten carbide, features a redesigned tachymeter scale with vintage-inspired horizontal numerals, baton markers, and denser graduations. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The dial of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Rolesium introduces a notable departure from traditional steel Daytona configurations, presenting a fully white surface without contrasting sub-dials or rings. This uniform aesthetic is achieved through a grand feu enamel construction, giving the dial a smooth, glossy appearance that enhances both clarity and visual depth.
Unlike conventional enamel applications, Rolex employs a modern approach by coating the enamel onto ceramic plates: one for the main dial and three for the chronograph counters, before assembling them onto a brass base. This method ensures greater structural stability and consistency, while maintaining the artisanal character of enamel. The absence of contrasting rings places emphasis on the purity of the white surface, subtly interrupted only by the recessed sub-dials and the red “Daytona” inscription above 6 o’clock.
Finishing details include applied 18k white gold hour markers and hands, all treated with Chromalight for long-lasting blue-emitting luminescence. The layout remains highly legible despite its monochromatic execution, with the polished elements and layered dial construction providing sufficient contrast and depth for clear time reading in varying light conditions.
