Rolex Datejust 36 with Tropical Palm & Fluted Dials
Recently during Watches & Wonders 2021 we were surprised by a few new designs on the Rolex side of time. Their classic Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 collection was released with several new editions that showcase two new unique motifs decorating the dials. One of these patterns is inspired by palm trees, while the other was inspired by the brand’s own hallmark fluted pattern. The 36mm case can be had in stainless-steel (Oystersteel) or two-tone versions with yellow, rose or white gold elements. The main novelty of this release resides on the dial, so case wise there have not been any major alterations compared to its previous iterations.Mounted to the case we can opt between a fluted gold bezel; or a smooth bezel for the steel case version. It comes equipped with a winding screw-down crown that has a twin-lock double waterproofness system and is bidirectional via a perpetual rotor. All covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, which assists in rendering this Rolex watch water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet). Dial wise the “Datejust” has previously been seen with blue, silver, black, white, pink or grey dials. But if those options weren’t enough Rolex has chosen to widen the range in 2021.The essential components consist of various gold applied hour index markers, followed by a printed minute track with thicker markings for each 5-minute increment. It features the iconic cyclops lens over the date aperture located at the 3 o’clock position. Plus the hour markers and central hands have all been treated with the blue glow of the Chromalight luminescence. As for the new designs they vary between two distinct styles. The “Tropical Palm” motif comes in green, gray or golden. Its named quite descriptively, since in essence what we see here are the leaves of a palm tree in a silhouette pattern, spread across the background. A unique and festive choice for Rolex that manages to be less distracting than you’d expect. While the “Fluted” dial motif pays homage to the brand’s hallmark fluted pattern, usually see on its bezel. It is available in a blue or golden color scheme. This fluted design is arranged in a horizontal fashion across the dial, creating an intricate pattern of light and shade, as its movement bounce off reflections.

Both bracelets can be had in Oystersteel or two-tone versions (that include yellow, rose, or white gold center links).
