Patek Philippe World Time Flyback Chronograph 5935A
For the first time ever Patek Philippe has crafted a version of their “World Time Flyback Chronograph” in steel. This may make it a bit more affordable, but we’re still in the presence of exceptional craftsmanship that demands a price. Keep in mind that besides all the intricate complications with useful indications. This new release also has a gorgeous rose-gilt, salmon dial with a hand-applied geometric pattern. The round 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with an overall polished finish and long protruding lugs. This is a slight increment compared to the 39.5mm case of ref# 5930P, despite it housing the same exact movement. But, the height here has slimmed down to 12.75mm, compared to the previous model’s 12.86mm stature. On the flip-side is a sapphire crystal exhibition caseback that allows a view into the movement. In full display is a 21k gold winding rotor engraved with a Calatrava cross. It comes equipped with triple pushers for chronograph and world time complication. The chronograph functions are activated with the start button at 2 o’clock position and stop button at the 4 o’clock position. While a simple press of the pusher-button at the 10 o’clock position will adjust the time of the cities by a 1 hour increment, allowing for a quick time zone adjustment. It also includes a screw-in setting-crown embossed with a Calatrava cross. All topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 30 meters (100 feet). The rose-gilt dial has a hand-applied motif pattern. Time is told with gray gold-applied hour index markers, followed by a series of outer rings. First off is a two-tone white and black 24h ring, adorned with a sun (day-time) and crescent moon (night-time). Day-time is represented by black numerals on a white background; while night-time is represented with white numerals on a black background.Next comes an off-white chronograph scale ring with black markings divided into ¼ second increments. The three-zone dial then continues to expand outward with a rose-gilt world timer city ring, which matches the pattern center hue. On this outermost ring can be read 24 city names corresponding to 24 time-zones. As light hits the center of these adjacent checkered squares opposing each other, it creates a subtle shadow play throughout the canvas. The dauphine hands are also gold-applied in gray, just like the hourly indices, and they have all been fitted with a Superluminova coating for enhanced legibility. There is a 30-minute counter sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, with a baton-style hand, which is counterbalanced. The central chronograph hand is also made of gold with a gray tone.
