Patek Philippe World Time Flyback Chronograph 5930P

Back in 2016 during Baselworld we saw Patek Philippe re-launch their “World Time” model line, along with the introduction of a new in-house movement that could contain a world-time indication simultaneously with a chronograph. Now they’ve expanded the collection with a brand new emerald green dial option.Although many may not recall, this is not the first time Patek Philippe has manufactured a watch with a world timer and chronograph. Even before the 2016 reintroduction, It seems there was a predecessor made in the 1940’s that also featured a pulsometer and asthmometer scale. That watch model reference# 1415 HU, may very well have inspired these modern editions. The round 39.5mm case is made of platinum with a polished finish and long protruding lugs.

On the flip-side is a sapphire crystal exhibition caseback that allows a view into the movement. In full display is a 21k gold winding rotor engraved with a Calatrava cross. It comes equipped with triple pushers for the chronograph and world time complication. The chronograph functions are activated with the start button at 2 o’clock and stop button at the 4 o’clock position. While a simple press of the pusher-button at the 10 o’clock position will adjust the time of the cities by a 1 hour increment, allowing for a quick time zone adjustment. It also includes a screw-in setting-crown adorned with a Calatrava cross. All topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 30 meters (100 feet). The emerald green dial has a hand-applied circular guilloché pattern. Time is told with gold-applied hour index markers, followed by a series of outer rings. First off is a two-tone white and black 24h ring, adorned with a sun (day-time) and crescent moon (night-time). Day-time is represented by black numerals on a white background; while night-time is represented with white numerals on a black background.Next comes a white chronograph scale ring with black markings divided into ¼ second increments. The three-zone dial then continues to expand outward with a green on white world timer city ring. On this outermost ring can be read 24 city names corresponding to 24 time-zones. Towards the center of the dial our sight is pleasantly drawn to gaze at the manually adorned guilloché pattern. The dauphine hands are 18k white gold and have a Superluminova coating for enhanced legibility. There is a 30-minute counter sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, with a baton-style rhodiumed steel hand, which is counterbalanced. The central chronograph hand is also made of rhodiumed steel.
