Patek Philippe Cubitus 7128 in Gold
Patek Philippe expands its Cubitus collection with the introduction of reference 7128, a smaller, more refined iteration of last year’s debut model. Now offered in a 40mm case crafted entirely from white or rose gold, the new Cubitus adopts the same squared silhouette and integrated bracelet design seen in the original, while introducing fresh dial colors and proportions that better suit a broader range of wrists. This release not only broadens the appeal of the brand’s most discussed contemporary design, but also marks the arrival of full-gold construction for this sporty-chic series.
The 40mm case is crafted from either 18k white or rose gold and retains the defining angular lines of the Cubitus series, though in a more compact form. Its square-shaped silhouette with softened corners and lateral flanks continues the sporty-chic theme introduced by the original steel model. The case exhibits a meticulous combination of vertical satin-brushing on the flanks and polished bevels along the edges, enhancing both contrast and definition. Measuring 8.5mm thick, it sits elegantly and is assembled with Patek Philippe’s two-part front-loading construction: the bezel and main caseband are fitted around the movement from the front, in keeping with the streamlined design of the integrated bracelet.
Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback, offering a clear view of the automatic movement within. Framing the exhibition window is a brushed gold surround that echoes the overall finishing language of the watch.
The caseband itself integrates cleanly into the first bracelet links, reinforcing the Cubitus’ seamless aesthetic.
The crown is discreetly integrated into the case’s side profile, partially recessed for a sleeker outline and secured by a screw-down mechanism to ensure robustness. Above the dial sits a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, complementing the refined geometry of the bezel and enhancing legibility. While the case’s aesthetic leans toward elegance, the construction remains reassuringly solid, offering everyday practicality in a luxury form. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
The Cubitus 7128 introduces two refined dial tones to the collection: a blue-grey variant for the white gold model and a rich brown version paired with rose gold. Both dials feature a sunburst brushing that radiates across the horizontally embossed surface, lending a sense of depth and movement depending on the light angle. The rounded square format of the case frames the dial cleanly, emphasizing its symmetry and layout.Slim baton-style hour markers, crafted from matching gold, are applied by hand and neatly aligned with the linear embossing. The date window at 3 o’clock maintains balance with its white disc and crisp black numerals, positioned without a frame for a more contemporary look. The angled chapter ring subtly guides the eye around the dial without disrupting its flow.
The hour and minute hands are fashioned in the same precious metal as the case and filled with a clean white luminescent compound. Combined with the similarly treated markers, legibility is preserved in dim lighting without detracting from the watch’s refined aesthetic.
