Patek Philippe expands its Celestial line with the introduction of the Ref. 6105G-001, a highly sophisticated astronomical timepiece that blends traditional complications with a surprisingly modern execution. Building on the legacy of the Celestial, this new reference marks the brand’s first wristwatch to display sunrise and sunset times, enhanced by an innovative system capable of adjusting for daylight saving time, further reinforcing Patek Philippe’s leadership in mechanical ingenuity and horological refinement.
The 47mm case is crafted from 18k white gold and features a distinctly modern, lugless architecture that softens its substantial dimensions on the wrist. Measuring 12.4mm in thickness, the case is decorated with a contemporary X-shaped motif across the caseband, giving the watch a bold, architectural identity that departs from more classical Patek Philippe designs.
Turning the watch over reveals a solid caseback, also adorned with the same X-shaped decor and engraved with the Calatrava cross. This unusual choice for the brand emphasizes the technical and design-forward nature of the piece, prioritizing structural integrity and visual continuity over movement display.
The watch is equipped with two crowns positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock for setting the time and astronomical functions, along with discreet correctors integrated into the caseband for adjusting complications.
A sapphire crystal protects the dial, preserving clarity over the complex display. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).
The dial of the Patek Philippe Celestial 6105G-001 is composed of multiple superimposed discs, creating a layered astronomical display that reproduces the night sky as seen from Geneva. A sapphire disc rotates in sidereal time to depict the star chart and Milky Way, while additional discs track the motion and phases of the Moon, resulting in a dynamic and constantly evolving visual composition.
The layout integrates multiple indications, including time, date, moon phase, and, for the first time, sunrise and sunset hours displayed via two white baton-style hands on the periphery. The date track is uniquely tilted to maintain visual balance, while the hands and markers are executed in gold with lacquered finishes for clarity against the deep, celestial backdrop.
Finishing details enhance the sense of depth and realism, with metallised sapphire discs and carefully layered elements creating a striking three-dimensional effect. The “Patek Philippe Celestial” (Ref#: 6105G-001) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 240 C LU CL LCSO with 51 jewels, 426 components, and 21,600 vph. It comes equipped with a 22k gold micro-rotor and a patented mechanism for sunrise and sunset indications with daylight saving time adjustment. Power reserve can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a black vulcanised polymer strap with an X-pattern decor, secured by a patented triple-blade 18k gold folding clasp. The modern strap design echoes the case’s architectural motif, while its lightweight and flexible construction balances the substantial presence of the white gold case, offering a secure and surprisingly comfortable fit.
